What really frustrates me is that voldy says that tomorrow (Weds), Anne awkwardly kisses Lucas.

I like Anne but I don't want her with Lucas. At all. Not even a tiny bit. Ever.
Absolutely not! I don't mind Anne either, but I'd rather see her paired with another supporting character. We know nothing of Anne's background. Despite the fact that BD is recurring, Lucas is a Horton and a central character with a long history. He deserves a valid love interest.

Rafe and Hope enjoy a romantic evening.
Nicole makes one last heartfelt plea to Chloe to give back her baby.
Kayla delivers unexpected news to Joey and Jade.
Sonny makes a pitch to Victor to make him the successor to Deimos.

DISCUSS!
Sigh... Lucas is pretty much the most eligible bachelor in Salem right now (at least until Eric comes back). He's mature, intelligent, handsome, and has a great sense of humor. Yet his love life is a shambles and he exists to prop other characters.

The show felt so different back then. More focused, and the storylines were driven by the cast as a whole. Each character added his or her own individuality to the story. The writing made the show an entire experience rather than a series of unrelated events, if that makes sense?

I think you hit the nail on the head. What existed in Salem was a sense of community. People didn't operate in silos, only interacting with others in their storyline. There were friendships that were nurtured and familial relationships that played out onscreen rather than being ignored or merely referenced. Storylines didn't exist on parallel planes... they were interwoven.

IMO a key to bringing some health back to this show is reestablishing Salem as a community of people interacting with each other on multiple levels. Maybe RC and SA will make it happen. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Chad vows to do what is right regarding his feelings for Abigail and Gabi.
Valerie tries to keep Eli's identity a secret during a high-stress situation.
Brady is thrown by Chloe's news.
JJ asks out Lani.

DISCUSS!
True is in a new commercial for Rooms to Go, and she is more convincing and has more chemistry with the actor playing her husband (in 30 seconds no less) than she and Casey shared on Days. But I completely blame the writing. She really started to shine after the Eve/JJ relationship was revealed, and was excellent (IMO) in the weeks leading up to Paige's murder.

If she'd been given quality material to play all along, she might still be on the show.

I'm curious about Chloe's news to Brady.
Chloe announces that she is moving to New York.
Probably a very unpopular opinion, but... bye, Felicia. I'd be fine with her moving. I'm kind of over Chloe. Maybe Nicole can go and be her roommate.

As far as Andre is concerned, hopefully Sheri can refocus the character considering she created him (along with Maggie DePriest... shudder). Quite honestly, he was created as a serial killer, so hopefully Sheri will remember that "little tidbit" and FINALLY make him pay for those crimes. Then just keep Thaao as Tony.

I've been watching late 1984, mostly for the first time. In the summer, Megan seemed very devoted to Max and like they had a reasonably loving, respectful father/daughter relationship despite being otherwise terrible people. Then when Stefano returned a few months latter, she started snarking about what an idiot Max was, was basically unmoved upon being told he had been killed, said he'd only been a source of income for her, and had flashbacks to being a child with Stefano. Was the change that abrupt in context? Or if I had started earlier, would I have seen references and foreshadowing?
Oh boy, those flashbacks that Megan had were so much WTFery. She had memories of being a little girl and playing at her father Stefano's feet with her sister Renee. Stefano didn't even know that Renee existed, much less that she was his daughter, until 1982! The writers didn't even bother to review history from two years earlier!

It's somewhat gratifying to know that rewritten history happened even back in the "Golden Age."
LOL, she had memories of being with Renee? In the scenes I just saw, Stefano asks Megan if she's upset that he renamed his yacht after Renee and wanted Renee to have his money. Megan says she is. Stefano says that it's because Renee grew up in poverty while Megan grew up with the Hathaway fortune and knowing that Stefano loved her. So they didn't even keep the story straight within the rewrite.
I wish the Megan flashback was posted somewhere. Two little girls, one blonde, one brunette, playing at their father's feet. Lol.

It's crazy how much was rewritten in such a short span of time. At least they were consistent with the fact that Renee and Lee grew up in a disadvantaged household, I believe in Georgia. I recall the "sisters" having discussions about their often-abusive father and Renee feeling that Lee had abandoned her when she moved out. Had Brenda Benet lived, I bet they would have explored this more, maybe even introducing their father at some point.

Brenda's loss was so very sad on so many levels. :'(

Talking about Renee, when she first appeared she was Emily's (Lee) little sister. At that time, did she not know that Lee was her mother or were they playing the people of Salem? 1981 Circa. By the way... what an actor Brenda Benet was.
Renee arrived on January 2, 1981 and had no idea she was Lee's daughter rather than her sister. At that point, I don't think the writers had crafted the story. It was only after Tony arrived that autumn and Renee started falling for him that Lee became agitated and told Marlena that Renee was Stefano's daughter. That piece of history has been rewritten several times over the past 30 years as the writers played with Tony's status as Stefano's biological son. Well, if he is, then he had sex with his half sister. :glare:

At this point, I'm surprised they're not just saying that Tony and Andre were twins.

I find it really frustrating because I actually think Thaao and Marci work well together in their scenes, but I can't enjoy them because it's Andre. Now if he were Tony, totally different story.
I'm convinced that when Anna comes to Salem, she's going to realize that Andre is actually a brainwashed Tony... Stefano's last act of vengeance against Tony. This version of "Andre" has been diabolical, but he hasn't killed anyone yet, so retconning him back into Tony isn't out of the question.

Also, didn't Thaao respond to a Tweet with the word "soon" some months ago when someone asked if we'd be seeing Tony?

Anna throwing Stefano's dead children in his face is so messed up, soapy, and sad at the same time. I'm so upset knowing this is Joe's last appearance.
A more exhaustive list including Megan and Renee and Benji (both of whom were killed by Stefano's own minion Andre) would have had even more impact and historical significance.

I would also like to have seen Marlena taunt Stefano that he (through Andre) was directly responsible for her cousin Trista's death, as well as her friend and patient Renee. Sure, it's ancient history, but it plays into the very roots and core of the three-and-a-half decades that Marlena and Stefano have been adversaries.

I'm still hoping David appears in this story at some point. Even if it's just a brief return. I think they're really going to miss an important beat in this story to tell it without David's presence. Then again, this is Higley. She told an entire triangle story (Daniel/Chloe/Lucas) without one point in the triangle (Lucas) having any perspective, so we shall see.
Oh, his presence will be felt...
That doesn't sound too good. I'm guessing he dies? Higley would totally do that. Bring on a legacy character like David for a week or two and then kill him with little to no impact. Or just kill him, off-screen.
Oh crap! If Higley does that, she can :flipoff:

I rescind my enthusiasm over Gregg Marx. I'll take a recast, as long as David doesn't die.
