Loved the hospital concert with Al Jarreau singing. One of my favorite songs "After All".
Oh, I absolutely agree. Al Jarreau's early 80s albums are just wonderful. I miss the years when Days used popular music so effectively. I think the changes in the music industry, coupled with decreased budgets for daytime dramas, have just killed the use of popular music in soaps. In the 80s, no one did it better than Days. Remember the super-couple themes:

Bo and Hope - "Tonight I Celebrate My Love" by Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack, "Whatever We Imagine" by James Ingram, "Holding Out for a Hero" by Bonnie Tyler, "Broken Wings" by Mr. Mister
Steve and Kayla - "Lady in Red" by Chris DeBurgh and "Goodbye, My Friend" by Linda Ronstadt
Kim and Shane - "Learning the Ways of Love" by Peabo Bryson and "Friends and Lovers" by Carl Anderson and Gloria Loring

Sorry for being long-winded, but this thread brings back so many great memories...

I had forgotten that Neil was the one who brought Carlo to Salem. Big mistake Neil (for your sake anyway)!
Not counting SORAS'ing, the first really horrible retcon in the show's history. And then came Madame X.
Oh Lord, Madame X, don't get me started! :soapbox: Especially since I had enjoyed Margaret Mason's Linda so much.
Lol! I hadn't thought about Madame X in years. Elaine Princi was a divine actress, but boy was she miscast as this unfortunate reincarnation of Linda.

Then there's the soon-to-be-introduced Megan Hathaway (DiMera). If they wanted Stefano to have a snotty, self-absorbed daughter, they should have rehired Philece Sampler and had Renee's twin sister come into town. Megan was such a poor replacement for Renee. Mercifully, the show realized that and electrocuted her. :D

Mimi and Kyle's Philip are two characters I don't EVER want to see again. Jay as Philip would be a welcome return, though. :)

Buh bye, Sandy Horton. She has left town for the medical convention that never ends. :)

Meanwhile, Doug and Julie have gone off on their cruise without a hint that it would be long term. We didn't see them on-screen together again until December 1993.
Such a crock. The soap couple that appeared on the cover of Time magazine not even a decade earlier just disappeared into the night. We didn't even get them back for Bo and Hope's wedding.

I know a lot of people revere this era on the show (there was a lot to like), but it's safe to say that some damn egregious mistakes were made during this time.

Lol. Stefano says Andre will die for killing Renee, yet he never follows through on it, and the old fool defended Andre ever after he killed Benji as well. They should have let Stefano kill Andre himself, with his final words to Andre being "this is for Renee and Benji" before striking the death blow.

These are gorgeous, but I sure would like to see one of them together!!

Would love to watch those episodes on my tv :)
Absolutely. This was an era when there was so much going on that if you missed a day, you missed A LOT! Sure, there was a lot of silliness and implausibility, but it sure was fun to watch and kept us on the edge of our seats. And the Friday cliffhangers were awesome! Every Friday! And the music... oh the music. They actually used current pop songs to advance the storylines, and sometimes we were treated to those dramatic scene montages set to music at the end of important episodes. Great stuff!
making me all jealous, lol

I'm eternally greatful for various YT users to uploads full episodes from that era. I remember watching the Island story from 1984 one evening, and when I finished all the parts it was 5am, lol. It was so worth it though! :D
If you haven't already done so, be sure to watch the days leading up to and including Renee's party and murder. That's incredible material as well. :)

It's a girl for Bryan & Elizabeth Dattilo!
Wonderful news! Hey Ken Corday, how about giving Bryan a special gift to celebrate his new arrival ... a CONTRACT!

SOD: Gabi leaves for prison

Gabi didn't need to predict the exact way that Andrew was going to hurt someone. She only needed to realize that he was not well and that she needed to alert the authorities and try and get him off the streets.

I had softened on Gabi and Andrew because I originally forgot that the gas fumes were so strong that everyone in the tunnels noticed it, but now I'm starting to think they should have faced faced charges over the deaths, the way people who accidentally cause wildfires do.
I feel Sami should face charges for shooting an unconscious man in the head.
I feel EJ and Stefano should face charges for kidnapping Rafe and Fay Walker's murder.
I feel that EJ should face charges for embezzling the funds from John's company which caused workers to lose their pensions and a police officer to attempt to murder John.
I feel Kate should have faced charges for attempting to poison Chloe.
Stefano,Kate,Sami, and EJ had more of a causal connection to what happened to their victims than Gabi did by hiring a person to stalk her.
Yes! And going back even further, the master criminal Stefano Dimera should face charges for hiring a hitman who committed multiple murders (Renee Dimera, Kelly Chase, Trista Bradford, Letitia Bradford, Daisy Hawkins, Benji Hawk, etc.), for kidnapping and imprisoning Tony Dimera, Roman Brady, and Marlena Evans Brady, for kidnapping babies Sami and Eric Brady, for the imprisonment and attempted murder (via guillotine) of John Black, etc. etc. etc.

This show is very selective about who pays for his/her crimes. Stefano should be under the jail at this point. I wish they'd kill him off once and for all.

Losing Philece from the show was bad enough, but reading these synopses brings to mind how we had to watch Renee get stabbed over and over again. It seemed like they paired off all the suspects, and they each recounted how they thought the other had killed her. I think we saw everyone stab her: Anna, Alex, Tony, Roman, Julie, Daphne, Delia, Pete, Eugene, David and lastly Andre. Talk about adding insult to injury. Poor Philece had to play it out over and over.

After all these years, I still want to say this to Margaret DePriest ... :flipoff:

Anna's brother didn't stick around very long. I didn't care for him anyway. He was too much like a Ken doll to me.
ITA. He was God-awful. I think they brought him on with no clear back history or storyline plans for the character. He was a plot point to implicate Anna in Renee's murder. Nothing more.

Aw, Trista. I really didn't see that coming at the time. Barbara Crampton was a little rough around the edges acting-wise, but she grew into a fine actress on Y&R.

Reading these synopses now, it's obvious that the Tony/Andre storyline hadn't been conceived yet. Clearly this is Tony grieving for Renee and offering a reward for her killer and NOT Andre. It just doesn't ring true when they later explain that Tony was kidnapped from the wine cellar and replaced with Andre just before the murder. I distinctly remember a scene of Tony sitting and reminiscing in the Dimera living room with Renee's cat Moonshine on his lap. But it was Andre's allergy to cats that ultimately helped Roman realize that he wasn't Tony. Plot holes. :)
I was thinking the same thing. I clearly can't remember when Andre locked Tony up. But I do remember Roman figuring out about Moonshine. Still hated the fact that Renee was not part of this. Loved that woman.
If memory serves me right, Tony told Renee that he was going down to the wine cellar to get a bottle of champagne with which they would toast their reconciliation. Afterward, they would go downstairs together and tell the partygoers that they would be married once Renee's marriage to Alex was annulled.

Months later, when Andre taunted the imprisoned Tony in the secret room, he explained (and we saw via a newly filmed segment) how he (Andre) returned to Renee's bedroom with the champagne after Tony's abduction. He called Renee "doll face" or something similar and took her hands in his. She commented that he sounded strange, but when she felt his calloused hands she knew he wasn't Tony. She called him an imposter and said she was going to get Roman, so he killed her.

I took great pride in the fact that Renee knew immediately that he was an imposter, yet Anna was with him for months and didn't realize it. That shows who truly loved him...
