Interesting/Spoilerish Tweets, Week of March 5th
I find myself rarely getting excited about, or looking forward to anything beyond a scene or a few episodes. The reason being that so many times in the past, when the show gives me something that I really want-they find a way to make me hate it and wish it had never happened. Being a Days fan (I use that term very loosely), has made me feel kind of like what I think a beaten down, victim of abuse must feel (of course on a much lesser level) Damn you James Scott for making me hang onto this disppointing show! :tounge:

Spoiler pics for the week of March 12th
The hairball needs to stay away from Nicole-he'll just use her for his own agenda like always.

I like Adrienne's belt. That's all I got..............

I was curious - do you know any story plans which were changed with new writers? For instance, what did Reilly have planned for him? What about Sheffer? What were Higley's plans before she was out? And which stories do you know of that were rewritten even when they didn't bring in new writers?

Sometimes, aside from the baby switch period, I feel like the character is in the middle of constant rewrites.
Carl-there are facts mixed with assumptions on this. I don't think I have ever seen anything in writing to spell out completely what we've seen for EJ from May 30, 2006 to date. I've taken facts from interviews and some common sense assumptions to try and piece it together.

From what I have read, JER saw James/Ethan on AMC and wanted him to play the part of EJ Wells. James first day on Days was May 30, 2006 and JER was the HW for both Days and Passions. I've read that Beth Milstein was responsible for most of what we saw in Summer '06-there were a lot of romantic scenes for EJ and Sami. I think it is safe to say that JER intended for EJ to turn out to actually be EJ Dimera-Stefano's son, even though he was gone and Sheffer was the Headwriter when that was revealed. Austin's line about the "better the devil you know" in regards to his and Sami's new neighbor told us that there was more to him that what we would see on the surface.

From interviews, Sheffer was sent some DVDs of Days-I guess to acquaint himself with the characters. Sheffer was quoted as saying that he loved Lumi and that EJ and Kate were going to be sex buddies. EJ and Phillip were going to become younger versions of their fathers. Tom Casiello,a writer under Sheffer, later wrote in a blog or in answer to a fan (?can't remember which) that EJ and Sami were never meant to be a romantic couple.

Then, we have Ed Scott replacing Wyman as Co-EP, the writer's strike, Sheffer and his writers fired and replaced with Dena Higley, Ed Scott fired and replaced with Gary Tomlin, another guy brought in to co-HW with Higley and it is still late 2008/early 2009-ish. It has just seemed to me that since I returned to Days in early 2007, that the majority of times, Days has been a hot mess behind the scenes......

Honestly, and this is just my opinion, I think Ken Corday has been the problem where EJ (and the whole show) is concerned. I think KC has a certain formula for writing- oudated, overused and uncreative as it may be, and he is stuck on it. I don't think KC understands why EJ has the fan support he does and why those fans refuse to accept him written as a one-note villain, like Stefano was for so many years. I think that is why we saw the heavy handed writing trying to make EJ look worse-it was so that his stale formula for characters, couples and stories would work. TPTB would "make us (fans) see it the way we were supposed to see it and by god, we would love it because they knew better than us what we liked'. I've think the schizophrenic writing for EJ was because of behind the scenes egos, personal agendas and power plays-nothing in writing to back that up. I do hope that someone writes a tell-all book someday.

I don't know what the new regime has in mind for EJ. I have been very disappointed with the reset as it seems that EJ is just an afterthought with his two episodes per week of mostly filler material. I keep hoping that things will ramp up for him and that whatever was the in envelope that made Stefano cry, means EJ will be getting some focus and good writing for his character. I look at day ahead recaps, spoilers and everything just seems so stale-like the show has given up.......

Oh, how could I forget Arianna and Lindsay Hartley. I loved that Arianna was a friend to EJ even though I could definitely see her crushing on him, and EJ genuinely liked her. It was a shame that Ari was killed off the show-they chose the wrong Hernandez to go in my opinion. I think something could have developed between Ari and EJ over time and with decent writing.

On TB's Taylor-This was the only female on Days with which EJ has been linked romantically, in which I did not see the chemsitry. I know that TB wanted to make the character her own, but her take on the character just didn't work. TB's Taylor came off too hard, cold, judgemental and entitled!

======= EJ and His Women or James and His Leading Ladies =========

I don't think my thoughts on EJ would be complete if I didn't include the above.

EJ and Kate were incredibly HOT, devious, wickedly sexy and I still occasionally look up some EJate clips on YouTube! James and LK could work it! EJate wasn't a love match-it was all about some hot, mindblowing, spine tingling sex- in between scheming and plotting of course. EJate were entertaining and fun to watch.

EJ and Sami-The chemistry between EJ and Sami sizzled-it was if I could literally hear it crackling through the TV screen. James and Ali had that lightning in a bottle type chemistry-they weren't pre-ordained, they weren't planned, but they definitely caught the attention of many fans. The EJami love scenes in May 2008 were HOT!

EJ and Nicole-I decided that I didn't like Nicole before she ever got to Salem because I just knew, they were going to have her come between my favorite couple. Silly me. James and Ari however, were not to be denied. When EJ and Nicole met in the back alley after the immigration hearing....swoon!! I could definitely see their potential. The scenes that won me over on the EJole chemistry were the Chez Rouge drunken bar scenes around the 1st of June 2008, with the flirting and almost kisses.....have mercy! The EJole elevator scenes the following July were sizzling, yet loving and tender at the same time.

EJ and Taylor-Even though it was a poorly set up and poorly written story, I thought that James and Natalia had great chemistry. Their first kiss on 3/17 and 3/18 was one of the hottest I've seen. I thought Natalia's portrayal of Taylor was pefect as the "still sort of innocent and naive enough to get swept away by passion" young woman-even though her head knew better.

I won't comment on TB's Taylor as it was over before it started.

I think James has had great chemistry with every one of the leading ladies he has been in story with at Days. James brings something different to each relationship, giving each couple a different feel and I think that is great.

I love EJ he is the only reason I watch days without him I would not watch it and I wish he was on more than just 2 days a week I too am dissapointed in the writing of EJ I was and still hoping that they will fix EJ's relationship with his kids I'm hoping that he will find a way to get his kids back, I too did not like the mayor s/l I still can't see him as mayor that is a nowhere s/l for him he would be better as a lawyer or even ADA since he is a great lawyer. The only , and I thing about him being mayor is that he can give the Brady bros. hell. As far as his love life goes I hope they fix that as well, I like him and Nicole together I hope they find their way back together and I hope that Nicole will tell him about the baby if she doesnt she will be no better than Sami was when she did not tell EJ about the baby and try to hide it, I wish they would keep Rafe away from EJ. I wish the writers would let EJ defend himself when need be whether that would be by him socking Rafe or Brady or even Lucas when they hit him.
EJ is the only reason I started watching Days again and if JS leaves, I'm gone too.

I keep hoping that Nicole is just processing things in her head and I hope they don't write her like Sami. I don't like the thought of another baby being kept from EJ at all. I loved sexy, flirty, tender and passionate EJole-it was so great to see EJ smiling and happy. I loved the tickling, what little there was, too!
I also wish Nicole tells EJ about his baby. She's so shattered and confused right now. I hope Dan can keep reminding her that EJ is the father and deserves to know. I would LOVE EJ to be in the delivery room seeing his baby being born!

I'm curious as to see what path these writers will take EJ. Did they drop the secret? I hope he's kept a DiMera.
I hope so too Liz. It's only been a day or so since Nicole found out about EJ and Sami and she needs some time. I read that Rafe finds out that Nicole is pregnant. I don't trust Rafe not to try to play and use Nicole again to serve his agenda, not to truly be concerned about Nicole.

I haven't read anything else about what was in Stefano's envelope that made him cry, but it does seem to me that with the way the scene played out-it has to concern EJ. I hope we start getting some insight as to what is coming next for EJ.

I also think the writers need to give EJ some friends. He is always so wrapped up in a woman because he has no one his age to hang out with or just relax and have an easy-going time with. I know he is a villain and a DiMera at that, so he is supposed to be a snob wrapped up in his own games, but he kind of comes off as a loser at times because no one LIKES him in the entire town besides his family and Nicole. I think it would benefit his character a bit if he could find an alliance of some sort with another male character OUTSIDE of Will...
I always thought that EJ and Phillip should be friends-they had so much in common. Both had overbearing, wealthy, impossible to please, never satisfied with anything they did, controlling mobster fathers. EJ and Phillip could both use a friend and it would be fun to watch them commiserate over the women troubles!

Other criminals in Salem, like Rafe, Sami and Brady have friends and family to not only support them, but help them cover up their crimes so they can pretend to be "good"! If those thugs can have friends, EJ should have at least one. I would trade Brady for JKJ's Phillip in a skinny minute!

I guess to put my thoughts on EJ in a more concise, Reader's Digest format, I would have to say:

EJ is my alltime favorite character on Days, in spite of the horrible, schizophrenic writing. I think if EJ had been played by an actor other than James Scott, that he would have been killed off long ago. It was James that made the viewers see beyond the surface of EJ and become fans. I fell in love with the Sweevil EJ of 2007, but I also love seeing EJ in soft tender loving moments with the woman he loves and Daddy EJ turns me into a puddle of goo. I don't think that EJ should EVER be written as a villain only. With James as EJ, he should be written as both a romantic lead/badboy villain. If Days doesn't have anyone up to the task, then they need to find them and hire them.

I think it was Dena's last FU toJS/EJ, his fans to have EJ sign away all rights to his children. I don't believe for one second that EJ would do that.
I want Days to fix the mess with EJ's kids-and fix it now. They need to repair and restore the EJohnny bond and EJ should have his kids at least half of the time.

I want EJ to be allowed to defend himself, fight back and beat the shit out of Rafe and Brady! This combined with Days fixing the crap with EJ's kids would be a beginning to them earning a little forgiveness from me. ;)

EJ DiMera played by James Scott  completely turned DOOL on it's head for this Days fan.

I have to give a little backstory in order to help explain the effect EJ had on DOOL for me.......
I watched Days practically from the beginning, with my earliest memories, though vague, being of Maggie-Marty/Mickey-red shoes and Bill/Laura/Mickey and the paternity drama with Mike and Mike/Trish/David. Then came the 80's and I was all about the supercouples- Roman & Marlena, Bo & Hope, Steve & Kayla, Kim & Shane, John & Marlena and Justin & Adrienne. Action, adventure, romance! Oh-and Stefano just upped the stakes and made everything that much more exciting! I was in heaven and couldn't wait to see what would happen next. I hated Fridays because I wasn't ready for it to end and I could barely wait to get home on Mondays. Then came the 90's and the writing changed-no more 80s supercouple writing. There were some good stories/parts of stories I guess, but overall I didn't like them and even my love for certain characters couldn't keep me from losing interest-fast forwarding huge chunks of shows, skipping and taping over unwatched shows untill I finally stopped watching in April 1997. I would feel a little nostalgic at times and turn to Days if I was home-like on a holiday, but nothing spurred me to set the VCR to record daily or to watch more than a few minutes.

I had some surgery in March 2007 and was going to be home for 4 weeks. My first full day home- I decided that I was too sleepy to start a book and I saw that it was just a couple of minutes before time for Days to start-1 pm, if it still came on that time. My plan was to watch Days for about 5-10 minutes, succumb to the Percocet and go to sleep, but that wasn't the case. It was March 30th and there was "this man" talking to Sami about about a paternity test- and the air literally seemed to crackle with the chemistry-it reached out and grabbed me in my Percocet fog! I can't tell you anything or anyone else that was in that episode, but James Scott as EJ DiMera made me sit up and take note! I was a complete goner as I found myself in front of the TV, right at Days time each day (and even set the VCR when it was time to return to work). I remembered Sami, but had never really paid attention to her-she and her gang had always been fast forward material. I learned that the male character in the scene was EJ DiMera, son of none other than The Phoenix himself-Stefano DiMera and the actor was James Scott. I had to catch up on the story so I went to the internet-YouTube, message boards and a couple of months later even signed up for a message board or two to show give my thoughts, show support....

I basically said all of the above to state that even with characters that I loved on screen (Marlena, John, Bo, Hope and others), none of them could keep me watching, none of them brought me back to Days and they haven't kept me watching this crappy show. That credit goes to James Scott and his portrayal of EJ DiMera. I agree that EJ is the character that has probably suffered the most with all of the inconsistent writing due to the HW, writers and Co-EP changes on Days. There were 3 different Head Writers in less than 3 years-JER, Sheffer and DH and 3 different Co-EPs-Wyman, Scott and Tomlin-the timeframe may not be exact, but it's close.

=================EJ DiMera ======================
I fell in love with Sweevil EJ in 2007-I loved his wit, intelligence, charm, sexiness, that he could be an arrogant bastard and that evil Sami had finally met her match! What a glorious badass DiMera he was! At the same time, JS did a great job in showing EJ's humanity and I found myself always rooting for EJ to come out on top-that hasn't changed. I also enjoyed watching EJ as a new father with Johnny and how he cared about Allie, his son's sister. The scene of EJ asleep after having held Allie all through the night  I loved the EJ Express and EJville-it was great to see EJ the Daddy at work.

I remember being SO PISSED OFF when Nicole blackmailed EJ in June 2008 and they did the "pinky swear"-little did I know what a harbringer of bad writing for EJ it truly was. The babyswitch story was awful for EJ and this EJ fan. The EJ DiMera I had fallen in love with would have never been tricked by those 2 women. The real EJ would have known that Sami was pregnant and trying to run away. The real EJ would have never been fooled by Nicole, with whom he was living, that she was still pregnant. The story did not fit EJ DiMera at all.

Just when you think it can't get any worse :huh1: , it's 2010 and Dena Higley, Gary Tomlin and Ken Corday-the "woulda, shoulda, coulda" of daytime prove you wrong. :-/ 2010 was the hardest year for me as a EJ fan. Watching EJ do everything he could to make up for his mistakes to that undeserving bitch, while she was pining for and fantasizing about the hairball made me feel like I was going to have a stroke or barf-or both. Watching EJ put his heart on the line with the beautiful propsal for that slut who was ready to spread her legs on a nasty locker room floor with Rafe made me want to cry. It also lit a hatred and loathing in me for Sami-more than any other character I've ever known. Then the shooting, and the parade of vultures taunting and physically abusing an unconscious EJ..........and they call EJ a monster? Yeah right! The Rafe wordship by EJ's son-Johnny-nauseating and completely unbelievable.

2011 brought a new love interest for EJ which I had been hoping for. I wanted to see EJ love and that love be returned. I knew by Ken Corday's preview that EJ and Taylor wouldn't be long for Days when KC gave away in the preview that we, the audience, would see that EJ had a heart (what did this moron think we just watched?) that could be broken. When the breakup is talked about in the same article that gives the introduction for 1/2 of a couple.........you know they are not going to be a true couple. Of course the new woman just had to be Nicole's sister and she wouldn't appear in town until EJ and Nicole had started reconnecting and things were looking good for them........... Terrible story decision and terrible writing. The two Rafes debacle-I don't for one second believe that EJ would have gone along with Stefano on this, even with him being over Sami. I've always thought that the two Rafes story was an attempt to make Sami look better-after the backlash from her attempted murder of EJ, by making EJ look worse.

Brady trying to murder an unconscious EJ by beating him to death. Yeah that's some hero! I am sick and tired of seeing EJ hit, slapped, punched, shot, knocked unconscious and beaten!! This is the son of The Phoenix and he would have been trained in martial arts, have body guards and should be on alert enough that this should not happen-especially not on a regular basis. They don't even write it so that EJ get to really hit back or defend himself.

At the big lame reveal, Rafe gets to punch EJ in the face because his wife slept with EJ. But EJ's spouse-Nicole, doesn't get to hit the woman that slept with her husband? Why? Why is it only EJ? Why doesn't Nicole get to bloody and bruise Sami's face?

I want to see EJ beat the hell out of Rafe and Brady!!! Now THAT would be must-see TV for me! I might even take the day off work to watch that live.
