camera shy

Was Kate born with a silver spoon in her mouth? Did the show ever talk about what kind of family she came from? I know she spent some years as a prostitute so I'm assuming that she didn't come from high society even though she likes to act like she did.
Yes, she's nouveau riche, but that type tends to overcompensate by being the snobbiest of all.

One of the problems with today's show is that the scenes are about 12 seconds long. There's no depth, no ability to build momentum or get invested in a scene that's shorter than a commercial.

I realize it's only been like a week, but I keep forgetting the Rafe/Kate thing happened.
I think Rafe has too.
But the other day, when she went over and sat with him at the pub, he got this big grin on his face and started to say, "Hey I was just thinking about you..." as if he was thrilled to see Kate and wasn't even slightly remorseful for cheating on Jordan. I can't decide if GG just played that scene weird or if the writers don't know what the hell they're doing.

Even though I'd be happy to see Jordan and Rafe's relationship implode if only to keep from falling asleep during their tepid, oatmeal, paint drying, laundry folding scenes, I'll admit that this Kate twist makes little to no sense. The only purpose I see it serving is to throw a wrench in her plans to destroy the DiMera boys with Sami (a mission that is a million times more interesting and worthy of her time and energy).

Sigh...James Read just better be that good.

I won't get into the fan stuff because I think that's something slightly different than misogyny, but Victor drives me crazy. The worst is when he slut shames Kate and Nicole...two women he chose to sleep with and marry (even if both marriages were invalid). I don't like that they play that for laughs. Sometimes, he is funny, but a lot of times it's absolutely grating. And I think they could make it work if they'd just acknowledge that he's just a bitter, grumpy old man. At one point I even thought it would work if they just said he had dementia. I don't think it works how they do it, and I even find his acceptance of Sonny and Will to be in opposition to how he talks about and treats everyone else.
I completely agree. I think he has moments of charm and quippy brilliant, but overall, he's just a nasty, hateful person.

And people like that exist, especially older gentlemen who are scared to let go of a world where only men like them have power. So I have no problem with the show portraying him in that way, but the writers, quite frankly, aren't smart enough to make that kind of social commentary. Instead, they present him as 'the voice of reason,' who 'says what everyone else is thinking.' And that's incredibly cynical and dangerous.

Jordan (to Rafe): "This is the first time I've ever been able to be myself.

Ok, then I'm going to need you to try on one of those aliases, because "yourself" is so, so lame.

The dialogue and pacing of today's episode is so much better than yesterday.

Alas, Jennifer's dress and hair haven't gotten better with time. She's shuffling around the living room, preheating the fireplace and pulling a tray of drinks out from underneath the couch. I guess the dinner will be around the coffee table with dessert and coffee being served in the front hallway. Sigh...budget restrictions.

And Rafe's self-indulgent pity party rolls on. The latest stop is the park with Jordan. He's looking at the ground with his hands in his pockets smelling like Kate. Jordan cow eyes at him and they're both STILL. SO. BORING.

Kate and Sami's scenes are being well executed. They're cold, but friendly. Trusting with layers of distrust brewing just below the surface. I love this storyline.

Kate's being surprisingly selfless today. And surprisingly gold.

James Read joins "Days" cast next week...
I'm really excited for this addition. I've heard great things about this guy, and I agree, the show is in need of some male villains/antiheroes. And major kudos if he manages to make Jordan less snooze-worthy.

SOD: Kate gets a lead on Jordan
I love how she's going to the Ozarks like it's one central location and not thousands of miles that span multiple states.

And I STILL don't get her motivation in all of this. I understand that our hokey writers need an antagonist to propel this long-stagnant plot, but there are any number of less bullshit ways to do it.

SOD: Sami knows EJ cheated
This explains why Kate said that sleeping with Rafe would "ruin everything," then pretended like she was talking about his relationship with Jordan. I thought she was just lying and being weird, but I guess having sex with Rafe would ruin her plans of tricking Stefano into a relationship. Now that makes me wonder what that sound in the hallway was while they were in bed.

This show screws up a lot, but this twist is actually interesting to me.

Can you imagine this show ever writing a scene with Stefano, EJ, and Rafe screaming and throwing cake at each other?

No? That's what I thought. Seriously, DAYS, I love you but you can fuck off sometimes.

That's who he is; it's not a version of him. This show is AWFUL when it comes to its presentations of gender, but Victor is above and beyond the *worst* when it comes to this. He's a total misogynist.

Jordan and Ben are just creepy.

That sex scene with Rafe and Kate was hilarious. It must be from the love scene handbook.. Once in bed, writhe around like worms, groan and create pain-like expression on your faces.
I didn't find it 'hilarious,' but DAYS definitely needs to revamp their love scenes. They're never creative and they're unrealistically corny. Theresa and Brady having sex with a blanket over them and Theresa in a bra. Kate and Rafe having sex with layers of sheets in between them. No one has sex like that!

And I get it; this isn't HBO, but they also don't have to show the actual sex. Some clothed foreplay. Some clothing removal. That would be a lot hotter than worms in a blanket.

it seems to me that he was sloshed and she took advantage of the fact he was sloshed, anymore sloshed and he would be blubbering. If the roles were reversed and Kate was the drunk one, it would be called date rape...just saying.

Sloshed? I don't know about that. The first time Kate & Rafe had sex they were both sloshed and, comparatively speaking, he wasn't acting overly inebriated.

And just because alcohol is involved doesn't mean consent can't be given. If either were to claim that consent wasn't given, then we can start talking 'date rape.' Did she take advantage of him in a vulnerable state? Yes. Was he a willing participant who consciously made a mistake? Yes.

Man, I need to stop reading this board. Ya'll are making me have an inkling of sympathy for Rafe & Jordan. I prefer to see Kate as the heroic destroyer of ennui in this storyline. ;)

I was surprised that they had Rafe mention Carrie LOL. I thought they wanted us to forget that Rafe was once in love with Carrie.

I was also confused by Rafe saying she tried to rescue Carrie. From what? I don't remember Carrie needing rescuing or did I miss something?

So Rafe boinked Kate because she is independent and does not need a hero to save her. OK then.
Rafe tried to save Carrie from what? Getting scrapbooks from her loving husband? That was a bullshit line.

And wasn't it KATE that said Rafe SAVED her soul?! Bahahaha! Guess she didn't want to mention that since she had him on the hook.

Just had to add: I hate when the writers throw random shit out there and expect us to swallow it as truth to further what they want to push for the day. Rafe wasn't ever "in" a relationship with Carrie. Did he date her? No. She was married the whole time while they just had a pining thing going on that never amounted to anything. He certainly never talked about rescuing her from her marriage or plight in life. So stop that shit!
You know, I've really enjoyed Rafe in this whole Gabi shot Nick arc. He's been - wait for it - likable. And while I agree that he and Jordan aren't super exciting, you had two decent people getting to know each other and falling in love. Yes, it moved too slow, but there are good people on the canvas. And unlike he-who-was-blessedly-absent-today, Rafe has been self-reflective and humble and not at all callous to his sister's plight. The self-pity today got to me a little, but that felt like it existed to facilitate this out of the blue Kate sex. This is especially true since Rafe has shown zero sexual interest in Kate since he woke up from his coma.

Also, I wonder how Rafe will feel about Kate remarrying the man who tried to have him Theon-Greyjoyed. (GoT reference)

I do hope Jordan dumps him and Rafe has to grovel for a very long time.
You can't find a thread of sense in this hot mess of a storyline. Like I've said, I'm all for Kate getting hers, but where did this come from???

I also think it's important to point out that even though the show needs "good" characters, good and interesting are not mutually exclusive concepts. Jordan may be nice, but she's is mind-numbing.

Mystery actor debuts in several weeks...
I don't know how this will play out, but I've heard very good things about this actor.

Maybe it was fake Rafe. Fafe.
I liked Fafe. Happy to see he has returned.
I didn't watch during the Fake Rafe era, so I don't know anything about that storyline. But just the concept sounds appealing as Rafe is only marginally less boring than Jordan, who is only marginally less boring than CSPAN.

SOD: Kate sleeps with Rafe
I'm all for Kate getting hers and if she's physically attracted to Rafe, I get it. He's a good looking man. I understood them in the beginning; that understanding ended right around the time Kate started inexplicably catching feelings.

However, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't slightly entertained by this spoiler. I hate Rafe and Jordan about as much as Kate does. Get em, Kate!
