Soaps are ALWAYS going to have a future. The devil is in how they're presented. I think web-soaps like THE BAY, STEAMBOAT and others might be one method. DRTV might be another... people may read soaps online. Prime time has copied the soap format for many years.

Somerset Opening 1976
It's one of the most underrated openings in all of daytime. Captures the spirit of the town and I love Charles Paul's "cool jazz" theme.

Holy shit. I never thought I'd see the day. Something's got to give. New writer, new producer, the return of Corday as the full EP (at this stage, I'll take anything)... of course, I don't know how far in the basement Days is buried, but it might be time to start examining this show from top to bottom.
Tomlim/Higley need to go.
Higley, sure, Tomlin, no.

I would be too worried about the budget efficiency, which is probably what will end up buying this show at least another year.

I do not think they should panic because it is summer. They did go up in demos and their HH aren't horrible either. Now, I'm not saying they shouldn't be concerned and that quality has nothing to do with it. It most certainly does. The show is better than it was in spring but that isn't saying much. That said, they can't really sit back and wait around too long into the Fall anymore to see if the numbers rebound. They need to look at what they have now and the research they have and make any adjustments they may feel is needed. The good news is it looks like there will be changes. We are already seeing some of them.

I will say that I am starting to think that the next renewal will come with a HW change, much like the 2003 and 2006 renewals did.
I'm going to play the other side here and say it's time for Tomlin to go too. I wouldn't be surprised if you see it happen. First Lindsay Hartley, now Gaby Rodriguez... I assume Galen is safe, but if he gets written out then I'd say all bets are off.

Should Days get renewed, I think there's going to be a push to take things back to the way they were. I think that means a Bope reunion (but I hope they really address everything that happened with the couple and Doug and Julie NEED to be there for their daughter), more familiar faces returning, and yes, a headwriter who knows the soap's history, whether it's Sheri or someone else.

There are some things that are working (the Victor/Maggie/Caroline scenes are a hoot to watch), but overall I sense this show's in trouble creatively, and that isn't a good thing.

Days: Judi Evans as Bonnie Lockhart
I love Judi Evans. I loved her as Beth. I loved her as Paulina. I loved her as Adrienne. I COULD NOT STAND BONNIE. She made me throw up. That's how bad the character was.

GH: TV Guide interview with Bob Guza about Vanessa Marcil
Well, Robin Christopher's stay was supposed to be short-term and she's leaving at the end of the month. I don't think Kelly Monaco's going to go anywhere. If anything, Brenda's return could put some zip into the Sam/Jason story.

TV Guide: ATWT Says Goodbye to Helen Wagner
I'm all right with how the story is told but I have one big problem... I know Conard Fowkes is dead, but what about Don Hughes, Bob's brother? He should return for this. And no Hughes memorial would be complete without Rosemary Prinz's Penny.

No Don? Meh. Days forgot Tommy Horton. No Penny? Then ya screwed up.

Speaking as a canadian, that portrayal of our nations capitol was beyond a joke.
Having been north of the border many times, I can tell you Canada takes great pride in keeping a clean nation. That's just writers who don't want to do the research.

Is that anything like what happens in Vegas...

Nelson's explanation of the nomination process was something I understood. When there's so many deserving candidates, sometimes the "HUH?" nominee wins. Laurie Heineman, the original Sharlene on AW, is a great example of this.
I thought SHE was great and a huge loss to AW when she left! But it WAS long ago and far away and I haven't seen any clips from that era!
Oh, no doubt she was great. But wasn't Beverlee McKinsey and a couple other heavyweights nominated that year? Sometimes when so many great actors/actresses are in one category the vote gets split.

If my memory serves me correctly, the scene where Lucky chews out Liz and Nikolas upon finding out about their affair was not eligible in this period. THAT is the scene that should get JJ the Emmy.
