Jean Passanante to retire from writing soaps/GH
Step up from Passanante, I guess...

Jason47's Weekly Thread: Week of 7/24-7/30
It's not great, but I don't think it should be terribly unexpected either. The show's in transition mode and these are the people who were heavy under Higley. I would expect that to look much different come October-November.

Spoilers for the Week of July 31st
Admitting Marlena to the same sanitarium that Sam did back in the day is a nice touch and very Ron. I hope we get flashbacks from that storyline.

Weekly Preview 7/24/17
It's improved for me with BF in the role, but Chad, as a character still has little relevance to me. I'm not actively annoyed with the character as I was when he was played by CD, but he's still pretty superfluous to me. That's definitely not the term I would use for a character that I need to be front burner regularly.

Why do balance and a new generation have to be incompatible ideas?

I think Marci is more understated and subtle. But, maybe better direction would help? She did a good job on Wednesday. So she is capable. She's a decent actress.
I thought she sucked on Wednesday too.
She was better when I watched Wednesday's show than what I'd expected based on what I've read about her and few clips I've seen of her. But my expectations were pretty low.

I'm far from thrilled about Bonnie being back, and Hattie's involvement still has yet to make sense to me, but I'm willing to go along for the ride.

My eyes couldn't roll enough during this Hernandez breakfast. "Same time next week?" I pray we're not invited to that one.
I'm just glad Dario is leaving and that we're only going to be left with Gabi and Rafe as the only two Hernandez's on the show.

However, I think Ron will like writing for them. He likes diversity and will really play up the family angle with them. I also don't see Rope going anywhere anytime soon. I think that's mostly a Ken thing, though. Although who knows for sure. It's possible that they're a couple Ron would like to write for anyway.
He does like to write for diverse characters, that's true, but he also generally likes to write for characters with strong distinct personalities....which doesn't really describe either Rafe or Gabi. My hope is that, if we're to be saddled with both of them, he'll at least improve them.

"X-mas visit" :(

I guess I'll take what I can get, but I'm growing very impatient with these short visits from characters who should be featured regularly.
I agree, but I think it's a good sign that they're being brought in if even for just a "visit". We know they're on Ron's radar, if nothing else...

Well. If OJ were going to pre-empt an airing of Ron's DAYS, sounds like this should have been the one.

Wednesday, July 19th Episode Discussion
Finally watched yesterday's show and was satisfied. Definitely a more engaging episode of the show than I've seen in a good while (which is saying something considering these are still Higley's stories being played out), and it felt more like the DAYS that I used to enjoy. Looking forward to getting through the next couple of months of cleaning up Higley's mess so that Carlivati's own stories can begin.

Drake Hogestyn, Matt Ashford, and Christie Clark have all been fired multiple times, as well. Based on that fact, should we then conjecture on their popularity?
I'm sure that's it. ;-)

You don't want to acknowledge that Madison and Beemer are reviled by a large amount of Days fans. This board may be pro-BM, but the general audience hates 'em.
Oh, really? Have you conducted polls that have shown that?

In any event, it seems my point was lost, so allow me to clarify. I don't see how any longtime viewer of this show, at this point, can draw any kind of connection between a character's popularity and how many times they've been fired. There just isn't one. You've had actors like Hogestyn, Clark, Ashford, etc. who've been let go multiple times -- actors that you yourself have expressed appreciation for on *multiple* occasions. Meanwhile, Josh Taylor has been playing Roman for 20 years straight. If you dislike Beemer and Madison, fine. No one's arguing your right to your opinion. But you're trying to form an argument to suit your point of view based on a fallacy.

Who've been off-screen for the majority of years since then.
Yep yep yep!!! If Martha and Brandon had even half the popularity of Jason and Kirsten in those roles, they never would have been canned. Twice.

Apparently there was supposed to be some more flashback scenes of Lee that got cut. One of the headwriters tweeted that she wrote some scenes that included flashbacks in the script for this episode and FV must have cut the scenes when he was editing the episode probably so that he could combine two episodes into one to make sure the show wasn't behind an episode during the holiday when the show was preempted for the 3rd and 4th. There were some spoilers for some other stuff that never aired either so that probably got cut too so that the show wouldn't be behind. Personally I would have cut some other stuff instead of the tribute to Lee Baldwin but that is FV for you. He would rather spend extra money that the show doesn't have to allow Valentin to sing a Billy Joel song to Nina at the Nurses Ball instead of paying money for flashbacks that fans would truly enjoy.
That's interesting. There were several points in the dialogue where I thought Scotty would flash back. He even looked away and paused, which is the norm before a flashback. Annoyed as hell that Ron would cut that yet include the pointless Man Landers and Sonny stuff. I hope at least we get Carly Schroeder on contract.
Ron didn't write it...

I don't see how there was even enough to hate?

I do agree about the lack of a memorial, though.

Hopefully she and Kenya go at it regularly in Season 10 because, otherwise, I have no use for Kim Zolciak on RHOA.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deepWhere did all this Mimi hatred come from?! She was an extremely popular part of the Last Blast crew.
A combination of terrible writing for the character in 2006 and Fath's limited acting abilities.
I always thought her acting was just fine. Not everyone needs to be Susan Lucci.
Unless they replace Kirsten Storms ;)

Mimi can stay far away from Salem... The mention of her that we will undoubtedly get from Bonnie will be plenty enough.
