yes, I'm saying it could be worse, and has been for others who were fired. I agree this was bad too.

Ok, thanks for clarifying. I don't think we completely agree, but either way, sounds like we both think this was pretty bad.

re Corday: I thought I pointed at the beginning of what I said that I believe that is the case, that's he has lost it (and not knowing him personally, I'll stick this being a comment on his ability as a businessman) but I don't see how that changes the past, or that fact that he's the reason we got to see many of the things people rave about. I see plenty of posters around here going on about how JER lost it at the end, but its normally prefaced with comments about how that wasn't the case in the 90s. I can't remember ever seeing comments like that about Corday. just saying.
Ok, I understand what you mean. I guess my own opinion on this issue is that if we're judging JER on his writing, it's pretty evident what his work was like in the 90's vs. what his work was like in 04-06. We saw it all play out on screen. (Though there may have been interference, etc, I understand that.) But with Corday, most of what he does happens offscreen, and it's hard to say which decisions come from him and which are from NBC, the EP, Sony. Nowadays, however, due to information that we're able to share online, we have more of a feel for his ineptitude. But the 90's are a little more murky, which is why I think you're not seeing the same type of "he used to be ok but now he's not" posts you see with the writers. jmo though.
I see...so when things go well, it could be anyone's decision, but when the shit hits the fan, it stops with Corday. ouch

eta: the feel for his ineptitude based on the information that is around now is only as good as the information itself, and I don't see the net being any better or more accurate necessarily than most other forms I've used over the years...there's just more of it.

When I see Deidre fired, and then another actress hired to play her character, I'll feel she and her fans were treated with zero respect.
So it's not possible to say that Deidre's being treated disrespectfully unless the part of Marlena is recast?? I'm just trying to understand what you're saying here. Maybe you're trying to say that it could always be worse? I'd agree with that. I just think that this is pretty bad.

And as for Corday, isn't it possible that someone can start out with some integrity and business sense and lose it as the years go by? Why isn't it possible that Corday used to be a better businessman (and human being) than he is now?

I'm sure when those couples where given the pink slip, their fans were upset and spoke out...it just happens to be that this time it's John and Marlena and it's their fans turn to speak out. Marlena has been a character on Days since 1976 and John/RoJohn since 1986, so ya, I do feel that should warrant a reaction, especially from their fans. As it has been pointed out, fans of other couples that have been let go, should know exactly how it feels. It shouldn't be a contest, it just is what it is.
for me, it's not a matter of it being a contest, as much as it seems to be implied at least that because a couple has more fans, those fans should be entitled to a better exit storyline for their couple, or the actors who play them deserve more respect when getting fired. I realize that is certainly not the attitude of the majority of those posting here, but it is the implication I've seen in the last couple of months. This is a show with a history of showing little to no respect to their actors...longer than Corday has been in charge of things. When I see Deidre fired, and then another actress hired to play her character, I'll feel she and her fans were treated with zero respect.

something else I want to say here too. First...I'm no fan of Corday. I've seen him wreck this soap...but I'm pretty tired of watching the same fans who have benefited and gone on about how much they adored the 90s raking him over the coals to the point of calling him a criminal. Whatever you think about him as a business man, he's still to some degree, the reason JER was hired and given carte blanche to create what he did, unless there's some story I've never heard that it was someone else's decision. It's awfully convenient imo to sing the praises of JER and then turn around and trash the man who hired him, just because he didn't keep up the show the way we'd all have liked. Yeah, it's his job, and if he doesn't do it well, people will stop watching. Personally, I've seen this happen on the show more than once and it didn't die and he was able to pull a rabbit out of the hat. I didn't think it was possible, but it happened. I probably won't care if he does it again cause I'm bored and not watching but that doesn't make it a foregone conclusion.

It's just a soap with a bunch of actors who make alot of money. Jarlena will do fine. I am glad they are finally gone. I will miss them, but they should be set for life...not alot of actors can say that. I don't feel sorry for them...they got a good run on Days, made lots of money doing fun work with lots of benefits. Good for them.
But it's not just about Drake and Deidre. It's also about their fans who got screwed over with one of the shittiest exits in history.
Doug and Julie got NO send off in 1984. One day they were going on a cruise, the next day they were gone. Julie's character had been on the show at the time since the beginning.

I remember blatant it was and how screwed over their fans must have felt.
