It's actually not an excuse. Days's ratings the week of the 4th of July have stunk the past few years. Over the 3 days they are on, they seem to have terrible dailies and that is because the Days audience has skewed younger and that is the group of people that does alot of traveling and doesn't stay home over the 4th. Add to that the fact that Days isn't on Thursday and Friday and they end up seeing usually around a 1.4-1.5 for the week. That is what I'm expecting, unless the 4th being on Friday is a factor. If that is the case, maybe Days may not end up so bad off for the short week but we'll see.

Well, I said last week I felt Days had to hit a 2.0 but considering everyone is tanking with them and they are now tied for 5th in HH with a pathetic 1.9 and are closed to beating OLTL and ending up in 4th in total viewers I don't think they had to this week.
These ratings stink. GL I think is gone within 6 months. It's just getting worse. AMC is tanking again. Y&R is stuck in a rut. OLTL is the best soap right now but it gets a 2.0. Just further drives home the point that quality means shit. The ratings are reflective of events and action now and nothing more. Go blow something up and watch the numbers rise. Seriously.
Days will have awful numbers next week, as usual, so I expect bad next week. Actually, alot of people seem to have taken off for vacations early this year (some on Wednesday) with the 4th on Friday so I think other soaps may do poorly too. We'll see.
Days seems to always have their excuses lined up........holidays, pre-emptions, weather, fans not being supportive. They are pros at placing blame everywhere except where it belongs, on themselves. Yes, times are changing and all soaps are struggling but I still believe that if the shows are good, people will find a way to watch. Hell, I remember a few years ago before I got soapnet when the show was pre-empted and aired in the middle of the night and I made a point to be sure my tape was set. Now I can download the show, watch it numerous times on cable, and I don't really care because there isn't much worth watching.
I'm not saying the show is to blame. All I am saying is that Wimbledon week is a screwy week ratings-wise for them. The show is to blame for the last few weeks of piss-poor ratings without a doubt.
I should add though I don't think good writing will do a damn thing. Sure as hell ain't for OLTL. Unless that good writing comes with events and action, you will be lucky to even hold onto a decent number in the ratings now.
