"Philip knows the situation could take him down, as well as his whole family, and he's wracked with guilt," admits his portrayer Jay Kenneth Johnson, noting that Bo has already 'put himself on the line' by ignoring Phlip's taped threat to kill Paul. "And the situation keeps getting worse." Case in point: The cops tell Morgan they found her father's jacket in the river so she fears he's dead. Philip tries to comfort her, infuriating Bo. "It's hard for Bo to see Philip cozying up to Morgan during all this," says Johnson. When Morgan heads off to call her mother, Bo accuses Philip of murdering Paul and lying to him about it. "They've been over this time and time again," notes Johnson. "Philip says he did threaten to kill Paul, but swears he didn't kill him." Bo suggests Philip back off from Morgan, but he refuses. "Philip cares for Morgan and doesn't want to see her hurting," insists Johnson. "He also knows he had a hand in Paul's downfall; that guilt makes him want to be there for her." Philip later meets with Kate at the Kiriakis mansion, where they discuss the missing Paul. "Philip worries that Bo might break. What if he tells someone (about the tape)?" muses Johnson. "There are so many things that could go wrong." Seconds later, something does. Henderson interrupts with an anonymous note that was dropped off outside the mansion for Philip. Kate reads it: "I know your secret." "Philip gets angry," Johnson asserts. "There's only one person who would do this to him: John." Philip storms off to the DiMera mansion, only to find Morgan already there, demanding John to tell her where her father is. "Morgan is at level ten," Johnson previews. "Philip tries to pull her out of there and defuse the situation. When Morgan reaches into her purse to grab something, one of the body guards think it's a gun and fires - just as Philip dives in front of her."
