I'll tell you what I think the difference is. The plane crash could have had an impact, if Higley had followed up longterm on any of the events. But she didn't. A few weeks later, the plane crash could never have happened, and all of the storylines would have been pretty much the same. The hospital storyline this week is a series of events with built-in impact. I'm not sure how this could be 'pulled out' of the current storyline. So many characters are affected, and what affects one character affects another as well. If this does turn out to be an isolated story, and the writers drop the ball, then I'd say you're right. But I don't see that happening here. Ditto for Nicole's fantasy... sure, it's a fun one-time stunt. But if it causes changes in the dynamics between the characters as a result, then it's not a "Higley-type event" at all. |
