That is what triggered Marlena's new 'empowerment', and it's classic soap writing that this is happening at the exact moment that John has stopped treating Marlena so terribly. But either way, I'm very glad she still has her guard up around him, as she has ample reason to doubt his sincerity. I agree. I'm glad they used Sam to move the story in a new direction. It shows planning and a clear direction of where they want to go, at least right now LOL. I like that Marlena is empowered and back to being feisty, independent, and strong. I know she's frightened of Stefano but it's more out of fear of the unknown and what he may do to her and her loved ones. I can see that.
