Without quoting your lengthy, well-written thoughts, I think that's what we're all trying to say, Phoenix.

But at the same time, I don't want the show to return to the 90's. In a way, DAYS has been perpetually trapped in that style-at least visually. The set design, lighting, and camerawork is all something out of 80's ANOTHER WORLD. Except AW was way better in the acting and writing department. On it's worst day.
Good point. These shows (and, in some instances, the fans) have to stop living in the past. The show has to create a new golden age for itself.

That is where JER got into trouble in his second run after the SSK/island story ended. He tried to re-create stories from his run and it did not work because the characters had already been down that road and had grew beyond those paths. That is why when I see endless "Bring Sheri Anderson back" responses on other boards, I can't go along with that thinking. I think the same thing would happen to her. Either she would alienate fans by pushing the vets aside and doing similar things with the younger characters that she did in the 80's with the current vets or she would try to hard to please fanbases and put the couples through the same sort of things and it would be the same old, same old. I think it would be bad either way with her.
