This IS classic soap opera. People act like this is some sort of Passions thing but it isn't. Most of the best soap stories were stories that took this long, if not longer, to come out. The best stories are ones that go on for a long time, play all the beats, and involve many characters over time. That makes the payoff worth it in the end.

So true. I'm an old-timer and one of the biggest storylines ever on Days was the secret of Mike Horton's paternity in the late 60s/early 70s. I think it took 6-7 years for it to come out that Bill Horton, and not Mickey, was Mike's biological father. Up to that time, only Bill, Laura, and Tom, Sr. knew (and briefly, before she died, Tommy, Jr's ex-wife). Bill Bell was writing for Days for most of that period and was able to keep viewers interested for that long. Of course, I know we viewers (including me) aren't quite as patient as we were then!
