Hi everyone, I've figured out how to embed a few video types on this board, and I wanted to share. If anyone comes across another video type, feel free to post it in this thread, and hopefully I or someone else here can figure it out! Also feel free to post any questions/issues with these video types. Good luck! :smile:

YouTube

Get the url of the video, which is found on YouTube in the "URL" box to the right of the video (and also in the address bar). For example, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIvZf3wT7iQ.

Then to embed it here, use [flash=425,344]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIvZf3wT7iQ[/flash]

Note: The width and height on the YouTube screen is 425,344. If the video looks 'stretched out' on YouTube, then just use [flash] without a width and height, and a smaller size will be used on this site.

If a YouTube user has disabled embedding on the video, you can't embed it here. It will initially show up, but then if you press play, it will say "This Video is Unavailable". It's always a good idea to play the first few seconds of the video you're embedding when you preview the post, just to make sure it's working correctly.

NBC (including Days weekly previews, etc).

Copy and paste the 'embed' code (found in the 'About' tab under the video) into your post. (Don't submit the post yet!)

The code will look something like:

<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://widgets.nbc.com/o/4727a250e66f9723/49069b31e05545ca/4741e3c5156499a7/3aa6cad2/-cpid/19e47dd0b3f49688" id="W4727a250e66f972349069b31e05545ca" width="384" height="283"><param name="movie" value="http://widgets.nbc.com/o/4727a250e66f9723/49069b31e05545ca/4741e3c5156499a7/3aa6cad2/-cpid/19e47dd0b3f49688" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="allowNetworking" value="all" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /></object>

The part you are interested in is the part beginning http://widgets.nbc.com and ending before the "id=" section. You can find the width and height in the above code as well.

So for the above video, you'd use:

[flash=384,283]http://widgets.nbc.com/o/4727a250e66f9723/49069b31e05545ca/4741e3c5156499a7/3aa6cad2/-cpid/19e47dd0b3f49688[/flash]

(Then erase the rest of the code you cut and pasted.)

Note: The NBC videos are usually of high enough quality that you can double the width and length (or multiply them each by 1.5). Just make sure you multiply each by the same number. For example, for the above video, you could do [flash=576,424.5].

Comedy Central

Cut and paste the embed code into your post. (Click the 'Share' button to get the code.) It will look something like:

<embed FlashVars='videoId=189148' src='http://www.comedycentral.com/sitewide/video_player/view/default/swf.jhtml' quality='high' bgcolor='#cccccc' width='332' height='316' name='comedy_central_player' align='middle' allowScriptAccess='always' allownetworking='external' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer'></embed>

To embed it here, use the following code, replacing the videoId with the videoId from the embed code:

[flash=332,316]http://www.comedycentral.com/sitewide/video_player/view/default/player.swf?videoId=189148[/flash]

Fox News

Copy and paste the embed code. You can get this by clicking the 'Share' button, and then 'Embed this Video'. It will look something like:

<embed type='application/x-shockwave-flash' src='http://foxnews1.a.mms.mavenapps.net/mms/rt/1/site/foxnews1-foxnews-pub01-live/current/videolandingpage/fncLargePlayer/client/embedded/embedded.swf' id='mediumFlashEmbedded' pluginspage='http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer' bgcolor='#000000' allowScriptAccess='always' allowFullScreen='true' quality='high' name='undefined' play='false' scale='noscale' menu='false' salign='LT' scriptAccess='always' wmode='false' height='275' width='305' flashvars='playerId=videolandingpage&playerTemplateId=fncLargePlayer&categoryTitle=&referralObject=3165484&referralPlaylistId=playlist' />

To embed the video, use the 'referralObject' and the below code. The length and width can usually be increased (each multiplied by the same number):

[flash=305,275]http://foxnews1.a.mms.mavenapps.net/mms/rt/1/site/foxnews1-foxnews-pub01-live/current/videolandingpage/fncLargePlayer/client/embedded/embedded.swf?playerId=videolandingpage&referralObject=3095123[/flash]

hulu

Click the 'embed' button in the upper left to get the embed code. It will look something like:

<object width="512" height="296"><param name="movie" value="http://www.hulu.com/embed/PvZcMs_bQiCoJyfv8ZOzoQ"></param><embed src="http://www.hulu.com/embed/PvZcMs_bQiCoJyfv8ZOzoQ" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="512" height="296"></embed></object>

To embed it here, use the code after the "value=" :

[flash=512,296]http://www.hulu.com/embed/PvZcMs_bQiCoJyfv8ZOzoQ[/flash]

Sony Days of Our Lives site

If the page url is http://www.daysofourlives.com/video/insidesalem/index.php?swf=15, then the embedding code would be:

[flash=514,419]http://www.daysofourlives.com/video/insidesalem/media/insidesalem_video_player.swf?video=15[/flash]

The number at the end is what changes with the different videos.

Inside Dish with Ross Matthews

Click on the "share videos" icon on the lower right of the video, then click the "embed" tab. Click "copy link", and paste the link into your post. (Don't submit - you'll need to edit it!) Find only the url part, such as http://www.cbs.com/e/Kyl1Jsvkx6pQ0oIlYHmj_plwojNZhCVU/theinsider/1. Use the width and length (will usually be 400,300) given to embed as follows:

[flash=400,300]http://www.cbs.com/e/Kyl1Jsvkx6pQ0oIlYHmj_plwojNZhCVU/theinsider/1[/flash]

Discard the rest of the embed code, and post!

As far as I can tell, ABC News, CNN and MSNBC do not embed here, because they are not flash videos. (They are iframe.)

Let me know if you have any questions!
Dear Ellie, Thank You again for the informative way to embed. I now know hoe to embed on other forums that have this editor. Again, my Thanks and I am a newbie, but an oldie when it comes to Daytime Drama! Take Care!

Love,
Myles
