THE DOUGLAS CUMMINGS MYSTERY, AS THE WORLD TURNS
The Douglas Cummings mystery was the best seen this year beceause the revelation of the killer who stalked Oakdale came as a total surprise. Cummings's assistant at Caroline's, Marsha Talbot, figured prominently as the probable murderer, and actress Giulia Pagano made her an ominous figure from the very beginning. As the bodies piled up (there were three victims) and the list of suspects grew, the police got further away from teh real killer himself -- Douglas. John Wesley Shipp's transformation from boyish geniality to psychotic desperation was remarkable as was Pagano's descent into madness after it was revealed that her obsessive love for Douglas turned to hatred and drove her to kill him.
Furthermore, the Douglas Cummings mystery featured one of the best sets of the year -- the fan room in which Douglas had covered every inch of wall space with photos and memorabilia from the singing career of Kim Hughes (Kathryn Hays), his own impossible obsession.
