They got married. Then Victor fell hard for Ashley Abbott. He asked a heartbroken Nikki for a divorce. But wait -- unknown to her, but discovered by Victor, Nikki had a disease, possibly fatal. Decisions, decisions, decisions. Before Victor could figure out what to do, Ashley overheard the sad tale and gave up Victor, who didn't know she was carrying his baby. To this messy triangle add Ashley's brother Jack, who had an affair with, then dumped Nikki, and Victor's brother Matt who was desperately in love with Newman's wife. Perfect timing and unexpected complications turned what could have been standard sappy soap fare into a compelling triangle, with audience allegiance shifting as the story progressed.
