And in the early seasons when it was better, and every episode centered on some bizarre medical case, the creator definitely tried selling it hard as a medical show and said as much in the press. So it should be held to the same standard as other shows in that vein.
No it shouldn't. From Day One, Grey's has never been marketed as some kind of ER knock-off. It was always promoted as being about the characters and not the medical characters. I don't care what that twit Shonda Rhimes said; no show creator who wants their show to be respected is ever going to publicly call their show a soap (even when that's what it is) when there's such a stigma attached to the term.
