It would seem that signing on for another couple seasons of "Desperate Housewives" would be a no-brainer for the lead women, but according to one cast member that isn't so.
"It's very tenuous, it's not as automatic as it seemed a few months ago," James Denton, who plays Mike Delfino, tells Access Hollywood Live.
Even as he uses a loaded word like "tenuous," Denton says, "I think it's going to work out. The network really wants us. We all want to be there."
Denton says that they would have "to drag me out of there feet first" before he'd leave his job on the show, but admits that the men haven't even been approached about their contracts. All seems to depend on whether the women can get their contracts squared away first.
According to Denton, Teri Hatcher is content with her contract. Also, newest housewife, Vanessa Williams, has said that she's "locked down for a while" if they decide to extend her contract and that is all dependent on whether the other ladies can come to an agreement.
So, that basically leaves the remaining housewives, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross, as the ones who are drawing negotiations out. And while one's first inclination is to assume the women are jockeying over dollar amounts, Denton says they'll all probably end up with the same salary as each other. They currently each make a reported $400,000 an episode.
A lack of desire to return doesn't seem to be a problem either. "I've talked to all of them," Denton says. "And they really are happy and want to be there. It's probably logistics hopefully."
"They're asking for different things," the actor says. "And I don't know what the differences are."
Denton also confirms that Marc Cherry will probably move on to develop pilots and hand the "Housewives" over to longtime executive producer, Bob Daily. According to Denton, the cast is preparing themselves for the change of guard.
