Restless Rant
Week of July 25 Ė 29:

As I reviewed the weekís recaps, I realized that if anything good happened to anyone in Genoa City this week, I must have blinked and missed it. Too much negativity, folks! Itís still summer - time for some romance, barbecues, and pool parties. Not that any of the miserable characters in town are likely to be in the mood, but one can always hope. There are also quite a few characters missing in action. Here are my thoughts.

How the hell could I be married to you?
Well, that was quite a twist in the jailhouse wedding ceremony on Monday. I think thereís a possibility that Adam chose to derail the wedding in hopes that Sharon would still take the plea deal. If so, it seems to have backfired. Conversely, he may have been acting on his sense of betrayal as he claimed, knowing that it would be too late for her to get the plea deal. Also interesting this week was the reveal that Adam is hiding someone Ė could it be Skye, ready to be carted out alive and well at an opportune moment? Itís a stretch, but not impossible on ďY&R.Ē As for the endless scenes of Sharon and her magical prison revolving door Ė Iím ready for something completely different. Sam hasnít grown on me either despite my best efforts. Regardless of his Ďhouse callí on Adam, I still find him dull and too much of a do-gooder to wind my clock. And why does he keep phoning that Piper kid?

Donít tell your father.
Sorry, I donít believe for a second that bratty Kyle would have kept his mouth shut when Jack showed up as Diane was telling him she was shipping him off to boarding school. Nope.

Hey now, Iím a rock star.

That was quite the explanation Tucker gave Ashley for why he doesnít know who his son is Ė or his sonís mother. As for his neurological difficulties, I donít understand why Ashley is willing to go to such great lengths to cover up his problem, but isnít willing to step up and run the company Ė wouldnít it be easier than all the subterfuge? Iím back to being puzzled about Katherineís actions this week. I could almost understand her feeling like she needed to protect the company, but why go over to Jackís house and plot to dissolve her sonís marriage as well? Strange.

Desk sex interrupted.
Okay, I loved Diane roaring into Restless Style and pulling horny Nick off half-naked Phyllis, and the ensuing cat fight was wonderful, but I also felt ripped off, and hereís why Ė since Nick slept with Diane, Iíve been eagerly awaiting the moment when Phyllis would find out about it and totally blow a gasket. But apparently she found out without us knowing since in this scene she clearly already knew theyíd been involved. Thatís just no fun. Anyway, hereís hoping Nick and Phyllis learned to lock the doors and turn off the elevator next time - and you know there will be a next time.

Anyone have a clue?

Just like a good mystery board game, Dianeís murder is being set up with a host of suspects and motives Ė itís a bit transparent, but typical soap opera. Victor, Adam, Jack, Phyllis, Nikki, and even Victoria could wind up in the hot seat if something happens to Diane (and you know itís going to). Iím quite sorry to see the character leaving the canvas at this point even though sheís completely whacked. Maura Westís been playing the heck out of this material and I think her time is coming to an end just as everyone has grown attached. Oh well, maybe Diane will just fake her own death. By the way, my laugh out loud moment this week was when Diane asked Jack to be a 'real family' and he deadpanned, ďAre you on drugs?Ē Perfection!

Bridge over troubled waters.

The whole Billy/Chloe/Victoria drama in the park this week didnít do a thing for me except make me irritated with all of them. As for Kevin and his rock, paper, scissors necklace...well, this relationship between him and Chloe remains a disaster. It doesnít come close to what he had with Jana, or what sheís had with other guys. I still remember the witty banter of their days as BFFs fondly. If itís broke, fix it.

The naked truth.
It seems as though the naked truth will knock the naked heiress out of her new position unless Victor can pull something out of his sleeve to stop Diane. How weird was it to see Victor all giddy over the idea of the naked heiress as spokesperson for Beauty of Nature? He despised everything to do with Abby's alter-ego! Even stranger was Genevieve Atkinson insinuating herself into their business Ė such an oddball character.

The Talk.
I liked the tie-in idea with Jack and Lauren on ďThe Talk,Ē although I thought it came off a tiny bit stiff. Also, I do think itís a clever idea to sell Jabot cosmetics in the real world, but Iím not big on watching the awkward sales pitches for the products on the show. Just saying. What did you think of the "Y&R" crossover with "The Talk?" Let us know by voting in Soaps.com's The Young And The Restless Snap Poll: Crossover.

Passion for fashion?
I don't know where Diane's been shopping, but she's certainly worn some tacky dresses lately. At least she rocks a great haircut. She's not the only one who seems style-challenged to some degree lately. Take disheveled Victoria for instance Ė who shows up to their job as a top executive looking like the dogís breakfast? On the flip side, Katherine looked amazing this week in her smart red blazer - what a great color on her!
