I think it's playing a little fast-and-loose by including someone like Gabi as a Brady. She's as much a Brady as Kayla is a Horton or Jack is a Kiriakis (due to who their siblings have married). In any event, I think the bigger picture is to look at the various age groupings. There are a lot of Bradys in the "vets" (over-40) and young children group, but in the groups that are often the focus of major stories -- the 20-40 group, there are very few Bradys. The only biological ones are Sami and Carrie in the 25-40 group and Will in the college-age group. Moreover, with respect to adding more Kiriakis and Horton members, the show is somewhat limited in its options. Unlike the Bradys, who have a slew of canon characters who could fit in the 20-40 group, the Hortons just don't have the same canon. Other than Lucas, Sarah and Jeremy, what canon characters fit into that younger group? So to add Hortons to those age groups, the show would have to bring in previously unknown Hortons like Nathan, who, IMO, audiences generally don't find as compelling as characters that they saw as children and that have established connections to the core families. The same problem exists for the Kiriakis family. To bring in new Kiriakis family members in the 20-40 age groups, the show has limited options. Other than Justin's and Adrienne's other sons, any new Kiriakis kids would have to be surprise additions to the family tree or the children of previously unmentioned Kiriakis nieces and nephews. |
