Have a storyline where Fay's death was faked to protect her from the DiMeras, and explore the Abe/Fay story potential that fans were robbed of back in 2003. I love that idea! Nicole needs an older person to go to and seek advice. Killing Fay off was a mistake, especially if they wanted to make Nicole a leading character. It always helps a character be in the spotlight when they have someone older to go to and seek counsel from. If they could have it that the DiMeras faked Fay's death, I would be all for it. And it could give Abe something to do in the future as well.
