Even before Susan took over, Kristen had changed from a gentle sweet woman to a psycho, and Vivian had told him she was jealous and insecure, feeding on his guilt in loving Marlena. He didn't put much thought into the wedding except for getting it over with so he could get back to finding Doc. Although, he does realize how silly they all look when faced with it, lol.
