Ok, off my soapbox now... I do agree that that type of music killed alt/grunge but In a way I am glad it did. The bands I loved in the 90's tried to change their sound so much in the late 90's early 2000's and became unrecognizable for me. Now that they are making music again, it's much better because they don't have to try and sound a certain way for radio. Now, that I'm an old man, I don't listen to Pop radio ay all. My XM presets are Underground Garage, XMU, Alt Nation, Octane, BPM and Lithium.
