I only remember John being stupid when JER was writing.
But those were John's defining years? The John and Marlena that everyone's come to know and love all came from JER's idiot John. (Yes they were there in the 80s but Hall left 5 minutes after he showed up) Outside of that, he took Brady's side against Marlena. He didn't get that Hope was Gina and fucking with him. And whatever the deal was with that crazy woman that paralized him .... He's never been the sharpest granule in the hourglass.
Yup. It's clear Marlena was the brains of the relationship lol.
