The story wasn't about John after Kristen realized that John would never truly love her and that he was actually in love with Marlena. It then became about winning against Marlena and settling for just having John. The story IS about Marlena and Kristen, and I wish they'd just go with that - because THAT is where the fun is, that's where the angst and comedy and drama lies.

All the Kristen/Jarlena stuff was so amazing! And the culmination of the "Thank you" was soapy perfection.
It's a calculated guess for Kristen to see if this pushes Marlena into hysteria mode against the danger of showing her cards too soon. I really think Kristen wants to believe she has reformed herself through therapy etc. but her hatred of Marlena is a stronger force that will undo her in the end.
And because it can't be said enough, ED =
See, that's kind of what I've been thinking. It's possible that the entire thing has been a set-up, but I feel like it's more layered than that. I don't think Kristen is obsessed with John anymore and I feel like she's sincere about wanting his forgiveness. But I also think she just can resist pushing all of Marlena's buttons. And that need to "win" over Marlena in some way is controlling everything else. I like it because it shows that Kristen's real obsession isn't with John, it's with Marlena and her life. That's much juicier than a simple triangle.
Of course, I could be entirely wrong. But even if I am, I love that it's completely unclear. It's nice not to have everything completely telegraphed for a change.
