I think Bill and Susan did date for a while. Didn't he even tell her that he was Michaels's father? I think Bell went in the right direction with the characters though. I don't think a Bill/Susan pairing could have topped the continuance of Susan's rivalry with Julie (this time over Scott Banning) or the Bill/Laura/Mickey triangle.
