IMO if you were looking at wrapping up the show, you would want as many vets as possible for the finale. That's probably true. If there is a good possibility they will be renewed and they are coincidentally "cleaning house" of some of the vets, that probably means they are confident that the current frontburner storylines are working so no need for the so called dead weight who aren't being written for.
