Jeannie is named after Shane's mother. It's a little confusing though, because he says Jeannie was his mother's name in 1991, but he said during the amnesia storyline in 1990 that his mother's name was Margaret. Jeannie's middle name was never given. A common fanwank is that Jeannie's full name is "Margaret Jean," which would reconcile Shane's seemingly contradictory statements. None of that explains why named Jeannie after Shane's mother when: (1) Kim had just left him; and (2) they both believed Jeannie's was Cal's child at the time she was born.
