I think it was Alice's nephew. You're talking about David and Valerie. David is Alice's great grandson (Julie is his mom). I wasn't watching then either, not being alive at the time, lol, so I don't have first hand knowledge of how the story was handled. I did read a sad article about the story being dropped and the actress getting fired. The fan reaction was overwhelmingly negative. The actors weren't allowed to kiss, or even touch at one point (on screen of course), but they were portraying an engaged couple. ^o) Everything has to start somewhere, and I guess every little bit helps, but even though the story was groundbreaking on some level, I'm not sure how much of an effect it had on the social consciousness of the viewership.
