I don't really see Jennifer "competing" for a guy as being in character. Jennifer (the one that I thought I knew) would rely on her faith in love to prove true. It wouldn't matter what Chloe did, Jennifer would think that if Daniel really loved her, nothing would tear them apart. And nothing in the character history would ever suggest that she'd be okay with a parent separated from his child (see: Baby Hannah).|
I hate that this story has Chloe sinking to these depths all for Daniel Jonas. After years of cringing at NB's acting, I finally started caring about the character at the end of her last stint, when she was dealing with PPD alone. I had so much sympathy for her then, and now it's felt like she's returned as a different character. And I've certainly appreciated characters who are morally "worse" than her, but I just hate that it's done all for Dannifer. What can her character gain from this?
I too can't imagine how they pictured all this ending up. I suspect they didn't care as long as they could keep the balls up in the air for the longest possible time.
