"Lead" is as much about tenure and stature as it is about airtime or story. I remember when Frances Reid was nominated for lead in the 80s. When you're only judged based on specific submitted episodes (in whatever category who chose to make those submissions in), it is those individual performances that affect who gets a nomination. Surely Peggy submitted material from the Alzheimer's storyline which has already received awards and critical acclaim. Peggy is ALSO an Emmy Award winning actress OUTSIDE of Daytime. She chose to submit in Lead and clearly the judging panel deemed that her submissions in that category (when compared to the other submissions in that category) were among the Top 4 and worthy of nomination.
I'm happy for Peggy! She's a pioneer among soap actresses having been a lead on Love of Life over 60 years ago. And even though that one was even before my time, I do remember her on General Hospital in the early 70s, where she was very good. I don't understand begrudging an 80-something year old actress with this background (and who can still act) of getting a nomination. This could be her last chance at getting one.
