A witness appearing before the grand jury can not have their lawyer in the room while they're testifying. If they need or want to, they can ask to go outside and consult with their attorney. |
The problem with this whole scenario is that in RL, a suspect is almost never called to testify before the GJ. The GJ generally hears from witnesses, suspected accomplices who may be given immunity in order to get testimony against the real suspect, etc. A suspect can plead the 5th and can not be compelled to answer any questions. In this case, it does make sense that Sami would want to testify because she is hoping that what she says will result in her not being indicted.
