I think they jumped on Netflix exactly because they're new, because they have brand-name actors, and because it'd be embarrassing for the Emmys if they didn't grab hold of that big new format. Sort of how the Grammys has shifted over the past few years after getting flack for primarily rewarding older acts. |
For me the difference between network and basic cable is content. People want realism, it seems to me, to define something as quality/Emmy-worthy. Networks can't even use realistic language with the occasional swear word. Basic cable can. HBO sure can. I just don't like them competing, I guess is what it comes down to.
