I think some of the men are written as moronic and clueless, but they are given multiple facets to their lives. Dan is not just God's gift to women, he's also a brilliant surgeon -- just ask anyone in Salem. Justin is a top lawyer. EJ is a shrewd businessman who managed to pull off a huge coup at DiMera Enterprises. Sonny owns a successful business and is expanding it into a nightclub. Eric is clueless about love, but he is a dedicated priest who has managed to expand St. Luke's by starting the school. Until he got bashed in the head, Rafe was a super cop. Even Nick, fresh out of jail, has been shown to be in-demand for his business acumen. The only guys who don't really have jobs that have played any role in recent storylines are Will , Chad, and Brady (who, nonetheless, is an exec at Titan).
Compare that to the women on the show. Hope and Kayla are the only ones who really have anything resembling active careers that seem to actually play a role in storylines, and they not-so-coincidentally happen to be the two female characters who the show is reluctant to put into romantic storylines. Beyond that, what do the other women do? Jennifer has a job she barely does. She once was a top reporter. Now, she is the hospital's PR person and seems to have no aspirations to doing anything more. Nicole? She's been helping at the church. Theresa? The low-level assistant, who is only there because her aunt got her the job and seems to have no ambition either. Gabi? Abby?
Oh, sorry, I did forget about Sami, the world's least-qualified cosmetic's company CEO.
