He's owner of the show, and gives himself the title of executive producer, yet he can't make the writers do what he wants? I personally think he doesn't care and is never around.
Networks (in this case, NBC) oversee and have approval for who is hired as Executive Producers. Ken Corday didn't "give himself" the title. It had to be okayed by NBC. NBC was very hesitant to let Betty Corday take over the show when Ted Corday died in 1966. They did not want a woman running the show, and they only let her do it on a trial basis for 13 weeks until she began to prove herself.
You'll notice from time-to-time that people (creators/executive producers) are fired from their own shows. Dan Harmon was fired from Community (and hired back to finish out the show's final season this year). The EPs at Smash were fired after the first season. Those are just a few that come to mind in recent years (and both done by NBC).
Makes me wonder then why Corday unlike other exec. producers at DOOL has never been fired....
