Dumb question. What is the difference between flashcut and flashback?
My understand is that a flash cut is a film edit. It's just a really quick cut. For example, there's a group of actors and something happens and you show all the reactions of the actors in flash cuts. Think of the DaysAster and how the explosion was shown to affect different characters (and salad plates) through flash cuts.

A flashback is a narrative device that interrupts the current time to show what a character is thinking, or to remind the audience of an event that affects the current situation, or to give context for a character's behaviour.

ETA - Flash cut doesn't really mean the same thing that I've always thought it did but I defer to Jason's encyclopedic knowledge of this stuff.
