While I hope for the former--with one caveat, which I'll get to in a moment--I've braced myself to expect the latter, given the current regime's obsession with All Things Daniel Jonas. He's their anointed Gary Stu, which means "all women want him, and all men want to be him," and any legitimate threat to his supremacy must be destroyed so he can flourish unimpeded. Jennifer herself serves no real purpose beyond being Daniel's ticket to legitimacy as a leading man/tentpole character on the show. She's his main sycophant and head cheerleader, whose life has no meaning or purpose unless he's in it.
I would love to see Jack back someday, and a storyline similar to that you describe. Except that I don't want to endure another Jack/Jennifer/Daniel triangle. Been there, done that, hated it the first go-round, which made me absolutely despise Jennifer, and the last thing I want to see is another cycle of which lovelorn sucker will she bestow her shallow, fickle, indecisive, narcissistic self upon? If there must be a triangle, let it be between Jennifer, AmnesiacJack, and the woman with whom he's spent the intervening years since the DAYSaster and with whom he has a genuine bond that he's not prepared to sacrifice for the faithless wife who couldn't be bothered confirming his death or survival before moving on to another man. Let it be a conflict between Jack choosing his past, which contained as much pain as joy, or choosing his present, which offers a new beginning but could strain his relationships with the family members who want him back. Daniel can go practice medicine in WhoGivesAFuckistan or go on another surfing safari and get eaten by a shark. Too much time and effort has been expended on this bland, generic, poorly defined himbo already.
