I think he's just pretending he's still under Dimera control to get the inside scoop on the feud. This makes sense, since other spoilers indicate he kisses Hope and tells Stefano the two of them are dating after he catches Hope in the mansion. Stefano isn't going to hurt a woman who is with a man working for him.
