I'm not condoning it either, but John wasn't there as "just" Marlena's husband - he raised Eric & Sami as well as Carrie while both Marlena & Roman were "dead". He loves them just as much as he does Brady, Belle and Paul and has said so to them on many occasions.

I don't think Caroline's absence is on the writers. I don't think we'll be seeing much of her. At least for a while. Remember, she wasn't at the Emmys this year and was nominated.

I wasn't suggesting John be out and Roman in. I think they all should have been there. John is going to be there just as Marlena's husband. But it stood out like a sore thumb that her father wasn't there.

Happens all the time. Wouldn't Caroline be at her granddaughter's wedding? Yet she was nowhere to be found.
I agree they all should have been there. But John is not just Marlena's husband when it comes to Sami. He raised her. Roman did not. That doesn't take away from Roman being her father but it shouldn't be negated that John raised her because there isn't a biological tie.
Yeah, that.

It really jarred me when Eric went to prison and the show explicitly contradicted the little matter of who actually raised the twins. Both John and Roman were in the room, as they should have been. But then Eric told Roman he wanted to get back to being the man Roman raised and I was completely taken out of the moment. Roman was probably around Eric for a sum total of less than a year between Eric's birth and his eighteenth birthday. Roman didn't raise Eric. Like, at all. It's not entirely Roman's fault, but it's a fact. Eric/Roman are close now, but that still doesn't mean Roman raised Eric. And the dialog made me dislike Roman despite having really liked the scenes a few episodes before when Roman frantically tried to get Eric to memorize emergency phone numbers and cell block layouts and Eric wasn't having it.

That scene with Eric didn't surprise me. When was the last time it was referenced that John helped raised Eric and Sami? They used to do, just like they used to reference John having been Roman. Recently? Not that I recall. Admittedly, outside of maybe 4 or 5 months straight last year, isn't nearly what it was. I'm talking going back 3 or 4 years.

I hadn't considered Peggy's age, Lysie. Perhaps that is a factor in her availabilty and work schedule. You know she's only going to be on so much. I just figured the wedding would be one of them.

At this point, I'm not sure whether I like it when they try to address history or not. They are clearly doing it for the long time viewers. But it's like they think they can get some of the details right, others wrong, and we won't notice because it's partially correct.

John shot orpheus in the heart. He checked his vitals. He went to the airport and then he went back on the next episode. They didn't have a shootout in some remote location and John left the body alone. it was in Orpheus' living room and Oliva was there. His last scene was with her in that same living room. I mean last scene before he went home. He wasn't pressing any charges against her and she would raise the children.

In the Stockholm flashback, I think they may have dubbed out Roman. The line was how does it feel, Roman. Today I think it was how does it feel. Again, they seem to want no part of addressing that.

Corday thought it had been 10 years since Chris had been on.

It was 10 years since Chris had been on. Chris last aired in 1987. He came back as Roman in 1997.

Can we move some of these discussions to the daily threads? This thread is really for the article. Now that some of this stuff has aired, let's talk about it where we're already discussing each day's show.

I know. I meant it in the sense that he figured that since it had been so long since he'd been seen that the audience would more readily accept him as another character.

I agree.
They should have given Caroline a proper dramatic death and funeral when they had the chance.

I wish Bo had come back for her funeral rather than his.

She'll be 89 in a few months. My guess is they will treat her as they did Frances Reid, having her work when she is able to.

I just think the character deserves a dramatic send off.
