Technically with Abby lusting for a older man, the rumor was it was going to be Abby and Eric, but that somehow changed to EJ, because of the actor leaving. And he was not sure if he wanted to come back to Days. I loved EJAMI and it did hit the key demos, that was the reason why NBC was really happy. But when EJ died and Sami left, it left a big hole with Days. Days had to in the first time, decide to what to do. They did balanced it out with the most of the cast. I am sad though, that Days in 2015 decided to cut Will and few others out. I thought we were going to see Will recover and move past his problems with Sonny...to be blunt, I feel bad for the WILSON fans.
Nah actual deal was Sami / EJ and Abby however, the story was not intact, and that is where I believe that it felt like the story changed course. But I do not know this is just a feeling I have.I believe that when the story took off from idea to script, they had hoped that James would stay. IMO
He was never going to stay when he knew Ali was leaving he even said in a interview with Michael Fairman just before told us he was leaving we had no clue at that point that Days wouldn't the same without Ali that should of been biggest clue that he was leaving as well. He was losing his best mate and his leading lady you can't get over its like losing a family member he know her for so many years and not only James felt that way. Christina Clark recently tweeted Days is not the same without Ali and even GG did it i know people say life goes on and you should work with who ever your put with buts its hard for some people.
I do not believe for a second that any actor / actress leaving their gig because workmate ends ??? I mean come on, it's a job and sometimes you want to progress in life to do something else / seek new challenges, etc. Sure, Ali and James certainly had a great relationship as colleagues but quite honestly they were not even friends outside of work they did not associate private and so on.

That is the thing that always puzzled me. If what we heard from James was true, that he flat out told the show a year out that he would not renew his contract when the time came, then why bother throwing Ejabby into play so late in the game. I personally believe that the idea was not to continue with Ejabby if Ej stayed, actually the opposite, since Days didn't know at the time of the outlining of Ejabby that Ali was leaving or was deciding to leave, then IMHO I believe that they were planning for an Ej death, post Ejabby without him reconciling with Sami and the story would have been Sami seeking revenge on Abby for the affair, long after Ej's death. The introduction of Chad at that time too was to give Abby something likely to do in the interim while Sami was out to get her for what she'd done with Ej...but obviously then Ali decided to go and the rest is history.

I do not think it was a whole year before I believe it was somewhere in this period, the leaked email on Sony is from November 15, 2013 where Ken is very worried. lol The story is already in print. ;)

Well Ali said they decided to leave the very same day i wish i could find that article that had her quote that it was just after she left Days. I am not saying he would of stayed if Ali had not left as well but it wasn't a positive thing her going you can't tell me he wouldn't of missed her big time. Anyway i think with EJ now i am at peace with him been left dead i mean what has he got to come back for the woman he loved more than his own life is gone and his kids no longer in Salem his father is dead and Kristen is dead as well he will feel so miserable and alone he probably wouldn't to go on anyway. If Sami comes back for Marlena wedding i be happy to see that i think her mother would want Sami there with her other two daughters although i not a fan of Marlena i can see how much Sami still loves her mother.
Ali never said they decided to leave together.
She and James told one other they were leaving the same day which was the fall of 2013 i am not telling lies here Luving i found the article and did read it again to make i didn't get it wrong. Alison said by doing that it allowed the writers to tell a story that they wouldn't be able to do otherwise with their contracts be up so close together. What i meant is is them telling one they were going not them leaving on screen together what ever aired in the end as we know Sami left a few weeks after EJ did.

No one is denying that. We all read the same interviews. They told each other on the same day. They didn't decide together. If they had decided together, they wouldn't have had to tell each other. ;)

According to what James said in one of his interviews at the time, he said that he notified the show a year before stating that he would not renew again. I would love to be able to read that interview again...let's see if someone can find it for us...I'm far too lazy to look for it now. When it comes to the leaked Sony emailed, I guess until something is final on paper, the hope was kept alive by Corday and others that they would be able to change his mind, negotiate a deal that would make him happy and keep him on board at least for another year, they were successful in the past, so why wouldn't they think they would be successful again? Sony's leaked emails simply prove that Days started to get worried around that time in 2013....likely when they approached him about a new deal and he told him he was burned out and likely reminded them what he said at the time of the last negotiation. The leaked emails clearly said why both wanted out... they mention burned out and tired on more than one occasion....it had nothing to do with the story, because I'm sure if it did, we would have had leaked emails from Sony, Corday and others stating that.

Per the hearsay email, JS and AS were burned out. I've always thought this email was hilarious because of the claim that Bruce Evans and Gary Tomlin were developing another soap starring them, a "threat" Mr. Kent correctly dismissed as nonsense. I wonder how much Mr. Kent knew about AS's upcoming parting of the ways with TBL.

I also find it funny how robotic her answers to the interview questions were here. Completely cut and paste. For an author she doesn't have a way with words. I will give her credit for hustle and hard work though. She proves that even in a creative industry, determination to succeed can take at least partial place of sheer talent.

Well they did work them a lot he were in nearly everyday taping so i can see why they were burnt out. Surely Ken Corday could of still of kept them by offering them recurring so they could have a break from the show when ever they wanted better their fans would of been happy with that rather than them leaving for good.

They didn't need to be offered recurring because that is not a guarantee of anything...it amounts to losing your job if you are an actor...what they needed to do and I'm frankly surprised they didn't do it, since they claimed they were both burned out for years...was negotiate a different guarantee....instead of continuing at the 3/4 episode a week guarantee why not attempt a 2.5? It's baffled me as to why they didn't do that years prior to them leaving...especially when Ali was juggling BL and writing books and other stuff...it seems like a no brainer to me.

I'm glad that we once again establish why they left.....

I would have loved to know who the 'source' was that created that rumor about the new soap...if they were sooo burned out, then why the hell are you going to sign on to do another soap...

and yes...I do wonder if Kent heard through the grape vine that TBL was going to let AS out of her hosting gig....

Ali is loving doing her movies and James love's travelling around the world i totally accepted i never going to see them again on Days at least there is you tube for me. I would even accept Ali coming back by herself again its better than nothing i miss not seeing her so much but i think Ali is in love with making movies now i never seen her so happy. I not saying Days is not still in her heart but i think she has truly moved on and the same can be said of James i wonder if he hasn't retired from acting and doing something else.

There are as many versions of who decided to leave first and when as there were interviews with JS and Ali. My guess is, none of those are the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

You are right! There are many versions but I think James said it the right way that he was thinking of leaving in June 2013. Told Ken Corday in advanced that 'he might'. Come in October, he said that he was. Found out that Alison was leaving and told her as well. Plus, the whole story changed with EJABBY because it was taped in advance.

I don't think it's out of the question that the "new soap" story (how pathetic is that in a landscape with four soaps struggling to survive) was floated as an attempt at leverage. Probably the execs thought the "burned out" reason was a play for more money. Given how embarrassing Days looks thanks to its itty bitty budget, it's hard to imagine anyone thinking they could get paid more. I've always wished we had the rest of that email to see just exactly how Mr. Kent dismissed this as silliness.

I don't doubt JS and AS were burned out. I certainly felt the way as of the last time I could stomach looking at either one of them, which was (much too) long before they actually left. JS had been phoning it in for ages, though I felt EJabby revived him somewhat. I actually would not blame either of them for being sick of the show either in general or in particular. I think it's safe to say that if they loved their jobs and were being paid an amount they thought fair one or both would still be there. Obviously that was not the case. Neither of them is setting the world on fire doing anything else, not surprisingly, but frankly they're about where I thought they'd be. AS's work ethic and networking skills will certainly keep her busy and reasonably successful. She might always wish she were a real star, but she's done pretty well all things considered.

EJABBY probably put interest to viewers who watches Days or got into Days because of this EJ and Abby. It could have been a whole new storyline of them....but it did not went there because the actor was leaving. And Alison, will have lots of connections like she already has. No doubt that Alison will go far beyond Days. I still want her back at Days....as well as James, but one of those dreams would come true.
