I can't speak for everywhere obviously; but here the school lunches are pretty well balanced. They always include fruits and vegetables with every lunch choice, and salads are available too. They get much better food than I ever did in school.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deephttp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/special/clinton/stories/affidavit122398.htmWhat happened to believing in the victim?
I don't have stats or articles to quote, but judging by the teachers I know, I think it's because there's a general understanding (or at least an opinion) among school staff, that the kids themselves hated the new food and some would not eat it at all.

I found that disappointing. She's trying to combat a real problem, and has put it a lot of admirable effort to what I consider a very good cause. I just think it still needs more work. I get discouraged by the tendency to tag something as a failure or not worth the effort if it doesn't function completely perfectly the first time.
the kids themselves hated the new food and some would not eat it at all.

That's my kids every time I try to introduce them to something new / and healthy.
Seems like a good indicator that the kids needed the program.

I think a good portion of that is attitude and resources. Example -- my mom taught elementary school (reading lab and then 1st grade) for 35 years before retiring. This was a rural school where the surrounding farms provided the ingredients and the cooks made the food fresh every day. Kids ate it and enjoyed it, even though it was nutritious. ;) Then it all changed and the cooks' hands were tied. Nothing fresh, nothing local. Everything pre-made or "just add water." Now that's the norm vs. fresh food. They object because they're used to something else, but I doubt very much that they've restored the quality that used to be there. There is also a cultural (commercialization) issue in which nutritious food is demonized and I don't recall seeing much done about that. Also, there's a big difference between seeing someone as a "school chef" and seeing someone as a "lunch lady." That image is problematic too because it devalues the profession.

It's a multi-part problem.

There's a book by Karen La Billon called French Kids Eat Everything about an American family that moves to France. The kids have to adjust to the French way of eating (no picky eaters, everyone has the same thing at lunch, lunch is not rushed, lunch is a proper meal w/a proper table, etc.) and they do -- relatively quickly. But it's well-cooked, fresh, delicious food. Again, a multi-part problem.

The point is that Michelle Obama gets a lot of flack for a necessary change, but she was on the right track. Had she had more support and the schools were given more resources, maybe it wouldn't have been a half-resolved problem.

How NBC Finished Second on the Trump Video Story

The New York Times, Oct. 9, 2016

Days after a blockbuster video emerged capturing Donald J. Trump, then a reality television host, making vulgar remarks about aggressively kissing and groping women, a question was still reverberating around media and political circles:

Why was NBC not the first to report its own story?

http://www.newsweek.com/2016/09/23/george-w-bush-white-house-lost-22-million-emails-497373.html

"Eventually, the Bush White House admitted it had lost 22 million emails, not 5 million. Then, in December 2009—well into Barack Obama’s administration—the White House said it found 22 million emails, dated between 2003 and 2005, that it claimed had been mislabeled."

Wow, why have I never heard about this before?

"A source involved with the stymied congressional investigation recalled the period as “an intense time,” but the Obama administration didn’t encourage any follow-up, devoting its political capital to dealing with the crashing economy rather than investigating the murky doings that took place under his predecessor. Since then, no major media outlet has devoted significant—or, really, any—resources to obtaining the emails, or to finding out what was in them, or what, exactly, the Bush administration was hiding (or losing)."

Oh I am beyond over all those books about how the French do everything better.

I've been to France several times it's not all breadsticks and berets.

George W. Bush isn't running for President right now. And lets be fair, Bush has been blamed for everything under the sun. Hillary is still blaming Bush for the economy of the last 8 years.

But Bush was never investigated 9 times for those emails.

Obamas been blamed for everything under the sun too, including Hurricane Katrina even though he wasn't in office, that insanity comes to whoever is president.

I don't care if Bush isn't president anymore,it was WHEN he was,its fine for him to lose emails but nobody else is,it's stupid on both there parts.

Really though, Restless, I think blaming G. W. Bush for the recession is dumb and giving Bill Clinton credit for the prosperity of the 90's is also dumb. The former had more to do with deregulated banks and the latter had more to do with the dot com boom.

Still bugs me when people seem to forget that Obama was handed this bad economy from the previous administration.

Anyway, something really wise I read recently warned that both parties need to start being more careful when they open up lines of attack on each other, it could come back to be used against them in the future in ways they don't appreciate.

I'm aware.

I'm as interested in his emails as I am in Hillary's. Which is to say, not at all. If laws magically changed and he were to run again, I still wouldn't be interested in his emails. I'm barely interested in my own emails.

Too many people are depending on the media to make decisions for them. I hate that Trump said those things but it won't influence my vote either way. It isn't important right now. Both Clinton and Trump have issues. They both gave skeletons. The real question is, " how can we get out of our current mess? Who has a better track record for making things happen?"
