Good interview Lysie :) Too bad Suzanne didn't have a chance to talk about Maggie's great love for Melanie and Daniel :P
Or Brady.

Loved it. Thank you. Her comment "back then we were only about 2 or 3 weeks ahead." made me think about how they are really too far ahead in taping now. There's no time to change anything, but I know that's been a problem for a long time now. I also like that she said she doesn't like that Maggie cries a lot. Neither do I. :)

I had no idea "the farm" story was 2.5 years long. That's a long "bubble" to be in, away from the Salem action.

I also had never heard the specifics about her return after she left with MG. My respect for John Clarke soars even more after hearing that he went to the producers, told them about her illness, and was basically the reason she was asked back.

Was also nice to see her complaint about having to cry so much. Just sorta points out that she is doing her job and that the actors are portraying what is written for them.

I had never heard about John doing that either. As an extra note, it took her 3 years to get back on contract. She recurred from 1985-1988.

Maggie and Mickey were on the farm for several years but they were in isolation only about a year. I believe that Mickey's picture was recognized in the newspaper the same summer that Addie died (which was in 1974).

From what I recall, Mickey & Maggie actually stayed on the farm in Brookville until *I think* 1980 because there was actual story about them moving to Salem proper finally. Maggie still owned the farm into the early 80s, when it was mentioned that she'd finally sold it (I want to say that Hank had died & there was no one left to run it, which is the reason it was sold). The 1st home in Salem is where Mickey/Maggie lived when Mickey was presumed dead in that plane crash caused by Stefano (all tied into Mickey digging into Evan & Stuart Wyland & their connection to Stefano). After that, they bought the Anderson lakehouse and this is the home I most associate with them from the 80s.

Going back to the farm in the 70s, Maggie has a LONG tradition of taking in strays. She even left Linda Phillips & her daughter Melissa live with them even though Linda was trying to win Mickey back & still trying to pass Melissa off as Mickey's daughter which Maggie KNEW wasn't true because she knew that Mickey was sterile, but couldn't tell MICKEY Melissa wasn't his daughter (and why she wasn't) because he would THEN know that Mike couldn't be his son either.

DAYS in the 1970s (from everything I've read, considering I was too young to actually grasp & remember any of it) was FASCINATINGLY complex with stories that would last YEARS.

Wow really enjoyed the interview, and her talking about Maggie's history without just focusing on recent stuff

Did the interview get cut off at the end? Last word is and...

Was it that early? I thought Marlena was brought on to be Mickey's psychiatrist and Mickey tried to strangle her thinking she was Laura. That was 1976. Mickey ran away after that and ended up on the farm meeting Maggie.

Mickey ended up on the farm in the summer of 1973, after getting amnesia, following a heart attack and a stroke. Mickey didn't need Marlena's psychiatric treatment until he learned that Michael wasn't his son (which occurred after Michael got hurt while working on the farm). I'm sure the Hortons reconnected with Mickey (who still had amnesia) in 1974. He and Maggie had married earlier in the year, then learned the marriage was invalid because he was already married to Laura. Mickey divorced Laura, and he and Maggie remarried later in 1974.

If I remember it right, Mickey left the hospital and was driving car that went off bridge into the river and Hank and Maggie found him. He didn't want anything to do with the Horton's at first. He did eventually allow "Mrs. Horton" to come around. It was very heartbreaking for Tom and Alice because it was clear that Mickey was their favorite son. I had never much cared for Mickey, being a Bill fan, but when he became Marty and involved with Maggie that changed. It's a shame they have ruined Maggie.

It was interesting that JC asked the writers to write him out instead of her. For some reason, I thought JC and SR didn't like each other. I like to think of Days actors as family, so it's nice to hear stories like this that support that good feeling.

From everything people have said about him, John Clarke seems like the sweetest man alive. Haven't heard any bad things about him. And even when he left, as we all knew even at the time, because he was fed up with how they were writing Mickey, he didn't complain or fanwank or ask the headwriter for things. He simply said "I love you, you're family, but I need to go and be happy now."

Mickey first developed amnesia after having a stroke/heart attack after shooting Bill in an attempt to kill him for his presumed affair with Laura. Mickey disappeared from the hospital (with no memory) during Susan Martin's wedding to Greg Peters. He then wandered until he ended up at Maggie's farm in Brookville. It was David Banning (Julie's son) who was believed dead after he drove his car off of a bridge, but ended up staying with the Grant family, which is how he ended up meeting their daughter Valerie. After David finally revealed himself to be alive, Julie was so excited that she tripped coming down the stairs at the Anderson lakehouse (where she was living because she was married to Bob Anderson at the time) & fell & gave birth to Bob's stillborn son.

Great interview, loved that Suzanne was so honest, and definitely confirms what Bill & Susan Hayes have always said.....that they all were fired, were not coming back (that serial killer story). In his book, Corday claimed that it was "always" planned to bring them back. As usual, that was not the way it was.

But it was NBC that was in an uproar, ordering Days to bring them all back, did not care how, just make them all alive again. LOL

Did not realize that the farm story was so separate from the Salem stories back then (was not watching at the time, but read a lot of references to that period)

I would imagine, with the frequent changing of writers on Days, the actors do have a hard time when their character has to say or do something which is so out of the ordinary for the character.

I'm pretty sure that Mickey had his heart attack (and a stroke in the hospital) in 1973 during an argument with Michael, after Michael found out about Mickey's affair with Linda Patterson Phillips. I remember that Stuart Lee was playing Michael at the time. Mickey did shoot Bill later after finding out about Michael's paternity, and then was committed to the mental institution. That's when Marlena arrived.
