Another bad week for Days its pretty obvious to me fans not like these new writers material at all they can't be ratings have not moved at all they the same as when their new material starting airing in August. I don't get why they is not mass firings if this happened a few years back and ratings as bad as this every week Corday be showing the door to so many people, only reason why he is not acting is because he probably knows it won't make any difference this time NBC won't be renewing it again. |

I see other possible reasons: - They are waiting to see what happens after the election, if the ratings don't go up then, Higley and Quan will be replaced. - They have a big break coming up and changing the headwriters now would make them lose too much money because they would have to pay Higley and Quan until February and pay the new headwriters but they won't shoot their material until January anyway. - The conditions for another renewal have already been discussed last year and those ratings, as bad as they are, still fulfill these conditions. |

When was the last time they replaced HWs in the middle of their contracts? It looks like most of their regime changes happened when HWs' contracts were up. So if they are planning to do that it will probably happen in February. |

As tends to be the case, it's helping them that the other shows are doing worse. They're staying stable...just stable with crappy numbers. The show sucks though. I've heard the current expectations are for winter. We'll see. Edited by lysie, Oct 29 2016, 10:10 AM.

They're stable on a weekly basis but compared to last year they're the ones that are (proportionally) most down. And that's for months. (Granted, it was the 50th celebration around this time last year, but they were down in Summer as well). Let's hope it gets better. |

Right. And if they don't go up some soon, that comparison is going to be even worse in November. But I didn't say they were doing well. I was just talking about this week's numbers and how's they've been stable. That stability is unusual for Days. |

The show is in transition. The difference between this year's transition and last year's transition is that there is no Peter Reckell, no serial killer, etc. They had to come up with something exciting while they tried to transition their stories, and they settled on the 3 villains (which, IMO, hasn't been that bad). So considering that, I think they're actually doing pretty well. They're not hemorrhaging viewers any more. The real question, long-term, is where they reposition all of the characters, and whether they are placed into stories that are interesting, have characters acting in character, have high stakes, etc. That's what we should expect to see by the winter, and that will tell us whether the show is in trouble or not. Higley and Quan won't be going anywhere for at least 6 months... |

I don't disagree. What I'll say might sound odd and contradictory but that's how I feel. IMO the show was in a pretty bad place when this regime started and IMO the 3 villains was a good idea to shake things up. However, personally, other than it was nice to see GDH again, I didn't enjoy it. However, I thought that from a more objective point of view it wasn't bad. Unfortunately the ratings don't show that. Yes, the bleeding stopped but it's Fall, and Summer ratings are traditionally bad, so them being stable and slightly up is nothing to brag about. IMO one of the problems is the canvas is a little bit too big, kinda like GH. A lot of characters appear sporadically. Leading characters aren't rootable or likeable. Big issues with couples and romance don't help either. I kind of see them trying to listen to fans (we'll get a lot of returns fans wanted, there's adventure ala 80s, vet couples, more family stuff) but guessing from ratings people aren't invested that much. I don't think the canvas is too big at all. They just flat out suck at utilizing their cast. |

Have you heard anything about the last renewal being 1+1? I remember, the first rumors were that they got a 2 year renewal but then when the press release came out, only one year was mentioned, and they said something about a possibility of another year, but the statement was very vague. |

They got one year with a built in option for another. That's technically also what they got time before last. |

Does the built-in option for another year mean they'll get automatically renewed if the requirements (ratings???) in the agreement are met? Didn't they have 2 years firm during TomSell's tenure? Edited by thepadange, Oct 31 2016, 12:05 PM.

Yes they did two year renewal in Jan 2014 under Tomsell i remember this very well as NBC just announced this new just after Ali said she was leaving Days and ratings were very good in Jan 2014 i remember that why they got that i thinks Days was just under 3 million viewers at that times and demos were twice as much as what they getting now. |

Don't know. I assume it's not automatic or they wouldn't bother separating it. They got 2 years in 2014. Prior to that, they only got one year in 2013. Prior to that they got 2 years announced a little early at the end of 2010. Prior that that, one year announced pretty late earlier in 2010. That one was automatic depending on ratings, so that could be what they're looking at this time, but things are so different now, who knows? The pattern this decade has been 2 years, 1 year, 2 years, 1 year. |
