It doesn't matter if you care about what happened to Rafe or not, it still happened and it's the reason he doesn't care that the monster is dead!
Oh for Christ sake, I wasn't arguing that it never happened. I was voicing my own opinion that Rafe is pointless as a foe of Stefano's and meaningless to me in the grand view of Stefano DiMera's history on the show.
Because Rafe is so hateful and Stefano was such an upstanding guy...yeah I get it!

Okay. Are you just not reading anything anyone says? Because at this point, that's what I'm going to have to take away from this.

That is what I'm reading. Hope and Rafe need to rot for getting rid of poor old wheelchair bound Stefano and forget what he did to them in the past because Rafe is inconsequential anyway . Never mind that both ,along with Roman, have spend a lifetime trying to protect the town from this evil man.

If that's what you're reading, you're not paying attention (I think one person is saying that). Apparently the rest of us have all been wasting our time bothering to type out responses. The last post you responded to wasn't even about that. It's fine that you disagree, but it would be nice if you'd bother to take the time to read what we're even saying to know what you're disagreeing with. Because it's not that.

It was an ok episode despite being another Hopefest. I like that she didn't try to make excuses for herself this time. BF and KA were both really good. I just wish he wasn't wearing that ridiculous costume for these scenes.

The show in general remains dull but it's watchable, i guess.

Marlena shot Stefano right in the stomach once, and he fell off a balcony and was presumed dead. She had a trial and didn't go to prison. The way to make Hope OK again is to revise the story so that Stefano isn't dead; it was a double or he was wearing a bulletproof vest, he escaped from the rubble where they took him, and he's been hiding all this time. I mean I realize the actor is not coming back due to health. The character can be said to be in Europe or wherever, and there is no need to bring the actor back to prove Stefano is alive. But Hope would then be free and the Phoenix would rise again.
There's a difference. Marlena took responsibility. Not a year later, immediately. Stefano had just tormented her and her family for three years. He had fixated on them, on her. He had killed Roman months earlier, kidnapped her infant twins with the full intent to raise them. He told her he was going to have Roman's family as his family one way or the other, so she could be a part of it or she could be without two of her children. So she took away a persistent and current threat to her family. And then, she was arrested. She didn't run. She took responsibility. And several people, SEVERAL (as in, pretty much everyone except Hart Bennett), hailed her as a hero for it. They accepted, even excused it away. Said she did everyone a favor, that he had tortured them for too long, and that she should get away, if nothing else, on reason of temporary insanity. None of them helped cover it up, and Marlena would not have let them, nor even considered it for a second. Marlena was the one who said "I did it, I'm prepared to take whatever comes." She was terrified of what was going to happen, but she felt she had done what she could do right then to keep Carrie and the twins safe from harm. She was ready for jail.

While I hate that Hope got to kill Stefano, my issue is less that she did it and more with the aftermath. The act can be explained, the handling of it and her behavior after the fact cannot IMO. Not if she's going to remain the heroine they show tries to portray her as. And I have just as many issues with Rafe and RoRo about it. So even having him be alive wouldn't take away how Hope acted after it.
And that's why Marlena is still a heroine and Hope is not... It's as simple as that. n my eyes anyway.

The Derrick, Paul and Sonny scenes are so cringeworthy. That time off did Freddie no favors, jeez.
Yes, it was bad.
I have to agree. I love all three characters but the scenes were cringeworthy as previously mentioned. Days needs to hire a writer who has actually met and interfaced with young gay men because the crap that they are putting out now for the trio is just awful. :yuk:

What annoyed you so much?

I'm not sure what you expect from Days but the gay storyline has been around for 5 years now. If you don't like the way they write their gay characters by now, I don't think you ever will.

They have and they can do better. TPTB just have never been that interested in writing for Sonny and definitely not Paul. When you look back at how layered and well told Will's coming out story was told (yes I know the pacing was a bit exhausting) everything else that came afterwards for the gay characters has been sh-t basically (outside of the wedding and Paul's coming out). It's just been plot point after point plot with virtual zero character development. I don't feel like I know either Sonny or Paul any better today than I did when they first arrived in Salem. Now they add Derrick, a character that we know even less about as a now PaulSon shipper and it's WTF time.

Basically, the gay characters we have on scene today exist only to get LGBT viewers to tune in but what's point when the characters (and actors) aren't really gay people just wooden caricatures? It was probably smart of the show not hiring gay actors for the roles because they would more than likely join us in advocating for a more realistic portrayal of their lives. Someone at NBC certainly doesn't want to see real gay men on daytime TV.

I agree, but to be fair, every character has become a wooden caricature nowadays.

Maybe you should watch foreign soaps because American soaps (at least the 4 soaps left) are not realistic at all, they sell fantasies, they rarely portray "real people", their characters are very glamourous, the situations they get put in are extraordinary.

About the gay characters specifically, I can see a reason why they are portrayed a certain way. The core audience is middle aged women and I believe this is how they like to see gay men portrayed on TV, this is how they want to think of their gay sons/brothers/friends.

Personnally, I'm not sure I would enjoy watching "real gay men" on my soaps either. I have to deal with the reality in my own life and it's often depressing...

Let face it... IMO there is no comparison.

Abby had a mental breakdown caused by a man who tried to kill her, set her on fire and take her baby. It wasn't long after these event's that she tried to kill him... because she lost her mind!

Stefano did torture Hope for YEARS... but she never took revenge AT THE TIME! Hope was facing a man in a wheelchair, who called her a, and I'm paraphrasing, "Predictable Coward... and her dead husband too..." and she shot him.

Hope should go to jail... I just wish she was taking Rafe and Roman with her.

And when all is said and done... it should have been John and/or Marlena who killed Stefano when he was a fully functioning psycho! ;)
He was still a full functioning psycho at the time of his death and this line of Chad's that he was a changed man is BS!
I never said he wasn't a psycho... I said he wasn't a fully functioning psycho... as in he wasn't mobile! He was in a wheelchair...what could he have done to Hope? Rolled over her foot?

Without Will, the flaws and weaknesses of the Sonny character & the forced pairing of PaulSon are becoming glaringly obvious. Both are so full of holes there's almost nothing there. I'd rather Sonny go back to Paris & they pair up Paul & Derrick ( tho' they'd have to do some work on Derrick)
Can I have a menage a trois and be happy?

Derrick is so damn hot. Paul is too. Sonny is adorable so the trio could totally work if Days wanted or was even remotely willing to go there. All three are free. No one really wants a deep commitment and well hey, every woman watching daytime would tune in for them.
