Is it possible to get back to the heart of what made YR (and many other soaps) so addictive back in the '80/'90s?
I think Brad Bell did it last year on BnB with the Maya reveal story. But then it faded away right after the Rick/Maya marriage.
I wish Sally and Kay all the best, and if I hear lots of good buzz, I may just have to start checking out YR again for the first time in many years

Wow I am kind of 50/50 with this interview. I am thrilled about what's coming for Sharon and Shick!! Exactly what I have wanted for years.

However, the rest of it is rather iffy. The Newman/Abbott hour? Like that has really skyrocketed the ratings lately. No mention of the younger set instead lots of talk of the above 40 crowd. There is no wow couple that jumps off the screen currently? That was Billy & Phyllis imo. But apparently that is repulsive to her when she's the one who introduced Phick to us. Let's just go back to boring bland Villy SMDH. I guess I'll wait and see how this pans out.
She talked about putting Sharon with someone else other than Nick, don't buy that Bridesmaid dress yet. lol
Some one new doesn't mean a pairing. Just before that, she said she has plans for Shick. Might be that she will finally find out who her father is. I would love that.

There are parts I liked about the interview, and there were parts of the interview that made me go "f*ck me". For instance, more fuckin' Victoria? She's the core of Y&R? Puhlzee!

I liked how she thought some sh*t was stupid *cough*Jill and Lauren's relationship *cough*Devon as a millionaire.

I also worry she is going to focus too much on the older cast. Yes, you need the vets and previous writers had problems with balance, however, you need new and young blood.

Finally a woman who knows her shit!

I loved every single thing that she said. She is 100% right about the previous writers killing this show. I'm so glad we finally have a writer back who is going to do this show justice again.
I really would be afraid to be so arrogant LOL. (it's about SSM, not the poster)

Let your ratings show that you're better than Pratt then brag, not vice versa
I seriously doubt the ratings will go any further than where it was.
Soaps are declining genre......so I am NOT expecting the ratings to climb.
for crying out loud, how many times has Days change regime..........then more reboots than Bret Farve's in his career.
and that hasn't worked well for them.

Those other s/l aren't "active" in her opinion, I suppose.
I have no idea why she would say that, unless she was misquoted. I'll have to read it again.
I think she said that meaning its the only current storyline that she likes.

If they take all of Devon's money away, Hilary will divorce him and sink her hooks into Jack lol.

The Billy and Phyllis hookup left both characters hugely unsympathetic. There’s no reason to give a damn about either one.

They’re unlikable. I agree 100 percent. That story was done at the expense of both characters. They will not be together anymore.
That ship has sailed. It’s one thing that they were drawn to each other. Phyllis certainly had motive for making emotional decisions.
What Victor did to her was absolutely disgusting. But it was wrong to have them be in love.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I totally disagree with her statement! Billy & Phyllis were hot together and Gina Tognoni & Jason Thompson have great chemistry.
I think it's a huge mistake to ignore it.

maybe she will see that AH is seriously lacking the skills.....then she will reduce the airtime and get rid of AH or put the heifer on back burner.

As for 40-Watt being the one to inherit Kay's money when Chancellor has two real Phillip Chancellors is crazy...............

Hilary and Jack was Pratt's/JFP's idea, so it won't happen under SSM, not that I care.

When she is saying all that stuff about Boretoria, she's probably thinking HT!! Then she sees, that ain't what she's getting. Not by a long shot.

I think SSM would have been a better fit for Days. That show needs a vision like that.

Hmm. She mentioned boards at least twice LOL. I think TPTB should be careful with boards. People (like us LOL) tend to complain more than say positive things. It doesn't mean everything is so bad.
Another thing, people on boards are fans who are usually extremely invested in the show, their POV might differ from general audience (most people don't read spoilers or discuss the show on boards).
Boards aren't representative.

I dont know......based on my inference of that interview.....she has a vision but that vision may not work for the audience that soaps want to capture which is the coveted demographic (W 18-49 group).
she said nothing about the younger generation and clearly they are part of the coveted demographic.
but anyway.........I have no hopes. I am already on the fence about the change.

Gina T and Jason T have way more chemistry than Amelie H (Boretoria) and Jason T (Billy)
she will soon realize that AH is a major dud.

You're totally right. I think her vision is very risky re: the demos. But at least Days has some characters in younger age range, so that would have been less of a problem lol.

I am watching Days again and I am seeing all the younger characters that i like featured. The characters SSM mentions were in their prime long ago but over a decade on, they need to form a new group. Like hell do I wanna watch 70 yr old Niktor smooching on a daily basis. I have no interest in Jack as a romantic lead.

She basically said she doesn't watch shows when she is not writing for them. So she probably didn't watch the story or doesn't care about chemistry. She didn't like the idea of Philly. Please, someone explain me (because I wasn't watching back then), how her idea of Phick was better and made the characters more sympathetic lol?

I'm getting the impression that she hates the doppelganger storyline like we all did and that turned her off completely from the affair. I can admit that the writing was very lacking with Jack being so clueless but the performances by the actors sold it. I don't see why they cannot start over properly.

I am going to wait and see what she spews out of the writers room.

She said it was ok that they were drawn to each other but it was wrong that they "were in love". Which I don't think was a bad thing because this part of the story was pretty well developed, and, as you said, the actors sold it.
(In other words she would have preferred an affair without real feelings, I guess, and that's what they're trying to degrade Philly into).
