Part of the problem why the ratings are so low might be Elections2016.

They been like this all year terrible i don't think its got anything to do with the election why they getting low Days has lost its audience they driven away so many fans away if look at how they do weekly now its either a very small gain or a loss they no long get the big bumps anymore.. |

You're right. It probably was because of the election. This was a huge week for Y&R so there should have been atleast a small bump in ratings regardless of how badly written it was. Viewers have been waiting for this. |

The primaries started in February. I think this election cycle has hurt the soaps, Days more than the others because the show has been really bad this year. There's a chance the ratings will go up now. But we shall see. |

I hope they do go up because if they still getting these numbers in January Days may be no more last few renewals Days had 3 million viewers and much better demos they million miles away from that now. |

Well let's compare the situation 4 years ago since it was an election year as well. During the fall 2012 (13 weeks), Days averaged 2,385,000 viewers, including 534,000 women 18-49. Days was renewed for 1 more year in January 2013, the announcement was made the day the 12,000th episode aired. This fall (7 weeks of ratings available so far), Days averages 2,200,000 viewers, including 384,000 women 18-49. |

It doesn't look very bad in comparison. The demo trends are bad for all soaps or should I say all TV shows. It's not a Days thing. Fall 2012 was when Tomlin/Whitesell started. The start was slow but the show improved a lot in 2013. |

Big difference Days had Ali and James there back then NBC loved them they also had other popular actors like ED and CM and BB and JM there they knew the ratings would go up in 2013 with them there and demos were still a lot better than they are now i think there is big difference between 384,000 and 534,000 when is the last times days even got near that i tell you when first week of Jan this year that is a difference of 150,000. What i am trying to say i bet NBC not so sure even if they did renew Days gain things will get any better with the current actors on Days now it was very different four years ago this is my opinion i may be wrong about that. |

You can't pretend that AS and JS departure didn't hurt the show. They had a huge fan base. I personally didn't care for them and always preferred E.J with Nicole but clearly tons of people don't agree with that. |

The person I was responding to turns everything into a conversation about James and Ali including who the next writers should be. |

Remind me to look at this later. It looks like 2008 did fine during the election, but that was another really weird time for Days in general, and that was the renewal they almost didn't get. Plus, 2007 was the year that really killed them. All of the other factors combined may have kept the elections' effect from being particularly noticeable at the time. I do remember that 2012 didn't improve as quickly as people expected, which is pretty similar to this year. |
