Bonnie calling Steve 'Patch' should have been a red flag. No one in his family ever called him that. It was considered an insult to Steve.

A red flag that something is weird, absolutely. A red flag that it's an entirely different person? Nah.

I used to ask my dad what happened to my real dad whenever he did something incredibly out of character. But I was joking. I never thought my dad had been replaced by a lookalike.
Kayla certainly considered it insulting to Steve. But I'm not sure Steve saw it that way. I don't recall him ever being particularly put out about it when other people did it. But I might be misremembering. It has been a couple of years since I rewatched 87 and longer since I rewatched anything before that.

The same with Bonnie calling Sonny "Jackson". Both Sonny and Maggie thought it was strange, but it wouldn't clue them in to her being a different person.

Look forward to the Justin/Hattie one and the John/Marlena sounds good. Interesting to see how that "Adrienne"/Victor will play out.

Sheila working at the Kiriakis mansion should be fun lol. I hope I get some Justin/Sheila interactions too.

Seriously, not looking forward to Will's return. That story is going to annoy me on so many levels. Can't stand character or the actor.

Thank you, Lysie for posting. You are awesome w.

I remember Hope calling him Patch once when she wanted to get back at him for his harrassing her about Bo being a Kiriakis. So i think Steve did take it as an insult and people knew it

Okay but that was 30 years ago, Bonnie said it one time, he was distracted, and he did think it was weird. I would understand these issues more if no one was noticing something was off. But literally everyone has noticed.

Other than Andre and Roman, I don't think anyone has reason yet to think they're entirely different people. And literally everyone they've come into contact with has thought they were acting strangely. Theyre not going undetected. It's just not clear what the issue is. I don't think either one has said anything stupid enough to make anyone think "doppelgänger."
IDK.Whenever anyone I know does something weird of slightly out of character, the first thought that leaps to my mind is " Oh, crap, doppleganger!!!". :)
Haha -- exactly. Because that would be absolutely ridiculous. And TWO lookalikes is even more ridiculous.

And yet here we are with the "new and improved" DAYS with three people locked up in straight jackets in a mental hospital (Andre is next) and two dopplegangers running around town.

Okay. But you literally just said that the main reason you think it's stupid is the way the other people are acting. If you think it's stupid because it's doppelgangers and doppelgangers are stupid, okay. But that's not what you said, so it's not what we were responding to.

I accused my dad of being a doppleganger pretty frequently when I was a kid (sans the word doppleganger). I never meant it, though. I'd always say, "who are you and what have you done with my dad? I don't mind so much? But I'd like to know he's safe somewhere." My dad never once found this amusing.

Thank you JCP.

It is possible, I went shopping on my day off years ago. I was in the store and looked up and from a distance thought I saw one of my younger sisters. I was getting ready to walk up to her and say I thought she was working that day. The closer I got to her, I started doubting my eyes. I got close enough to see her walk off. It wasn't my sister, but she had the same hair color, same facial features, about same height and weight. I told my sister she had one of those people that look like her running around places. lol. I really thought this woman was her until she was close up to me.

I don't think Hope called him "Patch" at least after the character got an actual name. The only person I remember using it as a weapon was Britta. And it worked from her because she was the reason he had that patch in the first place. Other than that, I don't think he cared all that much most of the time. He called himself the Patchman, Patchyclause, and a one-eyed tomcat. He even asked Kayla why she didn't call him Patch like everyone else. The show did an interesting thing by gradually having more and more people call him Steve as he went from the scary thug to more acceptable anti-hero character. But, even then, the name still got used off and on and I think Steve only took it as an insult when it was intended as one.

There are just no good "new" romances on this show right now, nothing potential happening.

Yeah, I need new romances too. Couples with chemistry and well-written story.

Drunk Lucas makes a scene in front of Chad, Abigail, Paul, and Sonny.

Hmmm. I'm starting to think that Lucas is the first person to realize that Will is alive, but people won't believe Lucas due to his recent drinking and volatile behavior. Maybe Will somehow contacts Lucas, and then Lucas crashes PaulSon's wedding to announce that Will isn't dead. Since Lucas will be opposed to PaulSon's wedding, maybe Sonny just thinks that Lucas is lying about Will in order to stop Sonny from marrying Paul. Or Marlena could explain to Lucas that his alcoholism might've caused him to hallucinate that Will is alive.

I also think that Lucas could be the catalyst that brings Sami back to Salem. Maybe Lucas calls Sami and asks her to help him prove that Will is alive. Sami is always up for a crazy plan or scheme, so I could totally see her teaming up with Lucas to do some illegal/dangerous stuff to prove that Will is still alive. If so, the "Jarlena in Memphis" storyline could dovetail with stuff that Lucas and Sami are doing to search for Will.
I can actually see your scenario playing out. Lucas and his drinking are out of control. He hallucinates he sees Will, maybe at first Will tells him in his hallucination to stop drinking, (maybe this brings Lucas to actually stop) then the hallucinations continue when he's sober, maybe in one of them Lucas tells Will that Sonny is getting married to Paul. Will tells him he doesn't want that to happen, Lucas agrees with him and rushes off to likely stop the wedding. Voldemort says something about Lucas throwing a wrench to the Paulson union....I do wonder if Lucas isn't the one that actually interrupts that wedding and not Will as I had originally thought. I just hope if he does do that, that he's at least sober doing it...It'll still sound far off for Lucas to say in that public setting that he's dreamed about Will who isn't happy about the Paulson union, lol....everyone will think he's coo coo, or drunk or both...only to prove later on that Will is in fact alive..As you said, it would be nice for Lucas to summon Sami to help him come up with some kind of evidence to prove to everyone that Will isn't dead... and that these aren't just hallucinations or dreams....Sami will still doubt what he's saying at first but if he's sober she might go along with it to try to keep him on the wagon....then they actually find evidence that proves Will might be alive...let's face it...all it'll take is Lucas or Sami seeing Rolf to peak their interest.

No, Hope really did use it at least once when she was angry with him totally in a pointed way he was supposed to understand was pointed. I felt it was less as a weapon and more as a warning telling him he was acting his old self.

Idk if they think of it as an insult or much of anything now. SN and MBE sign their posts #patchandkaylaforever. So you'd think they'd use Steve instead if it was an issue

Stephen Nichols genuinely doesn't care. Heck he often prints "Patch" underneath his signature when he signs autographs.

But it was a plot point that Kayla cared in the 80s so it would be strange if Kayla stopped caring now.

This is open to interpretation, obviously.

But I feel like it meant something to Steve that Kayla cared but that Steve doesn't care that much. But again that part is my interpretation.

Thank you JCP.

Story wise, I think the shift came when Steve was so upset when Marcus put the glass eye in so he could go undercover. The Marina crap started after that and when he lost his chance to ever fix his eye socket again. He came back for me anyway as real Steve again. The patch became so much a part of him that Steve I think felt lost without it.

I think Britta called him Patch once last time just before she was murdered when she realized that it was really over between her and Steve and she could see him falling for Kayla. They even had a song back then about someone realizes something is over.
