I wonder how much they spend between 2005-2007 to use songs and singers on they show I know the show still had a big budget in those days but still they had Donald Trump, Clay Aiken, Smokey Robinson they played Rolliing Stones songs also show a real concerts, had Rex Brady sing I got you babe, had country music and singers .
2009 was the big budget cut. That's when they went to the new production schedule of shutting down 15+ weeks a year. They fired Deidre, Drake, Mary Beth, Thaao, Stephen.

April 2004-March 2009
Length of Contract: Five Years (April 2004-March 2009)
Weekly Budget: $1.7 Million-$1.8 Million/per week
Variety Article: (6/2/03) (By Josef Adalian)

April 2009-September 2010...$750,000 less per week
Length of Contract: 18 Months (April 2009-September 2010) (18 Months plus a one-year automatic pick-up based on Nielsen ratings through September 2011, which was picked up by NBC in March 2010)
Weekly Budget: $1.05 Million/per week (per Ken Corday's autobiography...40% cut of last contract) (New shooting schedule goes into effect: no more overtime/Saturday tapings; must be out by 6PM each day; tape a full month of episodes in 3 weeks; studio dark for a week once per month)
So based on that and how DAYS operates 37 weeks a year, it costs NBC approc $39 million a year to fund DAYS.

NBC is paying Megyn Kelly alone $20 million a year, so I wonder what it is costing them to produce and run her show on top of that a year?

Their budget is probably even lower than it was all those years ago and getting even lower with each year.

Agree. Let me know. Thanks Jeff.

I finally heard back from Cheeks this evening. The big obstacle has been Ted Harbert who really wants to move to low cost info/talk shows instead of DOOL after next season. Despite this (and Harbert’s objection), NBC will agree to two more years of DOOL at $775K next season and $750K the following season, provided we go up from our current proposal of $4.25m to settle the Community issue to $4.50m. How do you feel about $4.50m? Given Harbert’s strong push for alternative programming after the next season, I think we’re better off locking in 2 years of DOOL now and paying the additional $250K."

Steve, here’s the financial impact if we were to agree to what NBC is proposing with the 2nd year pickup on Days, but the reduction in license fees.

Jeff,

Based on the current scenario ($4.25m) payment to NBC, and 2 season pickup for Days at $750k and $725k license fee (vs current fee of $775k), the total profit impact to SPT is ($4.1m) ebit. The impact would be realized over the next four fiscal years. Approx ($1m) impacting each year as indicated below:

FY14 - $1m (payment to NBC)
FY15 - $1.5m ($1m- payment to NBC, $500k – lower license fee on Days)
FY16 - $1.1m (all lower license fee on Days)
Fy17 - $500k (all lower license fee on Days)"

I imagine 1 Million or 750K is for 1 week on the air. So I would multiply by 52 for the year. The way the show is taped is not NBC's concern.

I think so too.

Btw, $750K*52 is $39 millions

Her Sunday night show also received abysmal ratings this summer, but I read this morning that it's scheduled to be back on-air after the Winter Olympics.

So, when she can't do any major rating damage in March/April. Dateline NBC should be back for May sweeps then.

Drake looks so good with grey hair, so much better than with dark brown.
