It's a bummer, but I can't say I'm surprised by these ratings. Monday started out well with the Lucas/Will stuff, but the rest of the week just squandered that momentum and was quite boring, IMO.

It's kind of sad because they got an actual bump for Monday and then just blew the whole thing.
Yeah, it makes me wonder if writing a Will "fake out" (i.e. ghost/vision) first wasn't the best way to go. If I wasn't spoiled and discovered that Will was only a vision/ghost, I'd be kind of disappointed/not inclined to keep tuning in.
I also think the issue is the ghost clearly left at the end of that episode. I think the rest of the week was mostly chabby wedding stuff, rope commissioner crap and Brady Eric Nicole (which I enjoyed)

This is not about Hallmark or Jen, but Deidre has so been bored for the last couple of days, and it's been cracking me up.

This also shows the ratings have not much to do with the characters, someone pointed out that the Eric/Nicole episodes had the most viewers in previous weeks so I expected the ratings to go up since they were on everyday but Monday. It turns out the ratings went down and the only good day of the week was Monday. Maybe for a lot of viewers, it's more about the flow of the episode (if they get hooked in the first few minutes) or the urgency to watch (the cliffhanger of the previous episode) than about the characters.

I thought that Will return day would be a 2.0 still only a 1.70 just shows that is the best Days can expect now less people watching not just Days but soaps in general that a few years would be considered bad i think people no longer interested in watching soaps. They still have a audience but the young people are watching other things look at drop in the demos proof of that and i don't think it matters who comes back it won't change that much. RC needs this Sami and Will story line to work big time for Days to have any chance of a renewal in January that is their only hope in my opinion i hope for you guys sake you do get another renewal as Days was and still is one of my fave all time soaps i never want to see it go off air.

My mom's a daily watcher and mostly unspoiled unless she asks me something specific. She's not comfortable with fandom in general so we don't talk much about things like that. But I had mentioned CM was back. And after confirming that CM was the "good Will." she was super excited. Then when she watched the ghost eps with Lucas she said, "Wait, he's just a ghost? That sucks." I told her to stick with it.

I wouldn't be surprised if she wasn't the only one.

I've seen people online complaining that Will was only a ghost and assuming he's not really going to be coming back from the dead. Then there are others who thought Will actually came back from the dead (despite all the lines about him being in Lucas's head) and who were disappointed that it wasn't followed up on the next day.

I think this airing week forward are going to be the real ratings test for the new team. It's been their writing for a while, but this was the first true event.

The show has a lot of faults right now, but I do think it's better as a whole. I'm trying to remember the last time it was at this level, but I'm not really sure. Fall of 2015 had some great stuff, but it was WAY uneven. The 2015 highlights are better than what's airing, but the 2015 lows are worse than the current lows...if that makes sense.

I think the show is banking on AS return as Sami...I don't think Will is that type of a draw either played by CM or GW.. Gh's burton was a lifer as Jason and AS is as Sami

I think the real test for Carlivati will be November sweeps.

In 2015, they averaged 2.73 million viewers.
In 2016, they averaged 2.24 million viewers.

I bet he will end up somewhere in the middle. If it's lower than last year, it will be really disappointing.

Wasn't it all of the wedding planning stuff? If so, that was really boring. As for Lucas/Will, the show essentially let go of the momentum in one day and then picked it back up in the world's shortest scenes 2 days later. That's not how you build up or follow through with a story that was previously being treated as central. Lucas has basically disappeared again.

I'm not suprised about Lucas. Ron did this alot on GH. Characters were on alot, then MIA for weeks, sometimes months.

If they do - they are not very smart. Returns can be powerful but only if the storyline is compelling. Otherwise they can get a bump for a day or two and the numbers will drop again. It's not only re: Days or Sami, is re: all soaps and any character, no matter how popular they were/are.

Well, we have to remember that the trend for all soaps (and all TV shows in general) is decling viewership. It's not so easy to beat the numbers of the previous year even if the show seems to be better.

It's not going to matter until November sweeps, but they need to pick up some steam first.

That is what often gets forgotten. Ratings for everything are down and will likely keep declining no matter what. I think the measuring stick has changed drastically ratings-wise. There were shows in primetime that got renewed last year that never would have gotten renewed before. As long as a show is profitable and competitive, it will remain especially when it comes to daytime.
