Hmmm not sure how I feel about this. I like GR, but don't know how well he will fit on this show. I'm sure he will be involved in Wills story.

Well that was unexpected.... and I'm also wondering why they gave TV Line the exclusive. Hmmm... wonder who he's playing.

Well looks like that may be the 4th gay character we've been saying would never get cast.

He seems a lot older than Will and Sonny. Maybe he is for Paul?

From the article, the role doesn't sound permanent.

Can we please get some more women on this show? More guys is really the last thing this show needs.

That said, I like Greg. I'll give him a chance.

It says he can still appear on YR, so that should mean it's recurring at most.

Greg is a good actor but our cast is getting crowded and we need more women on the show at this point. That said, in a recurring role that last 3 to 4 months...MAX....I'll take Greg. He's a good actor and would fit on the show.

Now who will he play......anyone's guess.

I'm guessing he is Dr. Rolf's assistant who fell in love with their experiment (Will).

Who said he would be playing a gay character?
I think this is the gay actor who has publicly stated on numerous occasions that he would like his character on Y&R to be revealed as gay, which some have alluded to being why he was dismissed from Y&R, so there was probably a deal struck to give him a gay character to play, but at a different Sony soap.

No one. I'm assuming people are suggesting he will based on his own sexuality, but that is moot. Straight actors play gay characters all the time, and gay actors play straight characters all the time. It's an odd assumption to make. It's not like actors are more likely to portray a character of their own sexuality or something.

I don't think it's an odd assumption to make when you factor in the actor's wishes to p!at a gay character and he's now joining a soap with gay characters amidst said soap welcoming back a gay character in a huge storyline....The writing's on the wall, it would seem.

It's not. Especially since most of the time an actor is added to the show, there's an assumption they'll be playing a straight character.

I guess the reason I assumed was because there are so few women in his age range currently.

Awesome news! After 3 years of solid performances, GR was awfully underused on Y&R for almost 10 years. I hope Ron gives him meaty material because he definitely can handle it.

He was publicly open to that idea since 2015, and it never materialized (Y&R made Kevin father Chloe's baby). It would be odd to randomly fire him over that 2 years later.

His greater point in talking about the idea of Kevin being gay was that it would be more responsible for a show to make a character that fans already know and consider part of their "family" a gay character. Soaps sometimes have a penchant for bringing on new characters that fans are not already connected to and making them gay (DAYS of course did not follow that formula with Will). In a sense that almost feels like tokenism sometimes, TPTB bringing on a character fitting a certain label as a solution to diversifying a show. I mean it's an improvement, but his point was that it would be much more meaningful to add representation from within. It doesn't "otherize" a gay person as someone new and unfamiliar, but establishes them as someone you may already know and love, and that sends a very positive message in regards to acceptance. It also provides an opportunity to delve into so much emotionally - if an already established character is made to be gay (an element that was never explored with said character before), the show is obligated to address the person's coming out, family reactions, etc. So it's done in a more tasteful and nuanced way, than just adding a new character and establishing from the get-go that he or she is gay, without much substance. I never got the impression that GR came out and then became aggressive to have his own character do the same. I feel that he spoke out on it because as a gay man he understands the experience in a way that no straight person ever could, and he wanted to explain what the best form of diversity would be for his community in a medium he is familiar with.

Yes, since representation is still quite limited. Hopefully that becomes less and less an automatic thought process as shows continue diversifying.
